Title: Old GTA - or so I thought

Got the idea from somewhere to make an old destroyer. Looking at it now, I have doubt it.  It's slightly smaller than a Deimos (I think. I sized it compared to an Orion). I will increase the hangars height later.

What do you think?
Should I stop this one and move on or do you have any ideas?

We haven't demanded ****. Yes, we'll ask for it. Can we have it?

Looks like a nice model. I'd do it, skin it either like an Orion, or a Fenris.

too slick for an old design if you ask me.

I don't think it's slick. Looks old, or maybe a new freighter.

I have to agree with Venom. Its nice and boxy, but the sides probably need to lose that indentation to get that old school GTA feel. Of course, I might be talking out my bung.

Orion is very...unique, an un symetrical design that is incredibly cool looking, the older style ships, ussually have a sense of...rigidity, no smooth sides, like big pieces of metel slabs welded together.

BTW: Nice Destroyer Ryx

And the engines on the older GTA models, are...well, big boxes(On the Orion), and sunken into the behind(Behind the ship only, newer ships have the engines spread around the ship) of the ship, like the Fenris and Faustus.

Just some thoughts off the top of my head!

Welcome to The T-V War project Roadshow.  You say you have an antique, we'll take it off your hands, hard drives or almost anywhere else and give it an appraisal.  Starring that ruler of the depths of Hell, Hades and his partner in crime Thor, Ruler of the nicely decorated Valhalla. Todays piece is an early terran destroyer, made by the master craftsman Ryx.  Now it is looking good, but it's the textures that we're all waiting for.  I'd say it's   and well worth inclussion in the project, provided we see the skins for it first.  Thank you for tunning in, and we'll be back for the next antique.  Good Night.

Somebody shoot this man! :D:D

I'd like to see it textured - sort of 'Fenrisy' would be good (I always think of the Fenris as being older than the Orion by a good ten years).

I've started UV-ing the old model. I'm currently using Orion texes.

I like that skin, so far anyway.  I allways liked the Orion skin, its more fresh and unique.  THe Fenris was allways just, well, dull in comparison.  Keep up the good work.

I'm not going to do a Fenris-type mapjob on this one. I will try it on the newer one, however.

Oh yeah... Looking very nice there.

Is it LODed, ready for POFfing and all that, or are we going to be waiting just that little while longer?

Well, MAX says it's 276 polys right now, so I don't know. Probably I'll do some LOD thing. It's not turret yet, either.

Then there's the other one and Mik's.

Anyway...

Ryx, are you working from the one with the cleaned up geometry?

If you'd like, I can take a couple hours and LOD it (all versions. :D)

oh, and in case I didn't mention it, that thing is dropdead sexy when you texture it. :D

Since I already texured the old one, I think I will do that one. As for the others... go nuts. :)

I figured, I'd start the process, before I show it. ;)

I used textures from Jedi Knight 2. Hope it looks good to you, as well. Most of these textures 512 on, at least, one dimension. I will probably have to resize them for FS2. That's assuming I can't find them in a smaller rez in the JK2 folder (there should be some).

that second one looks like it is a member of a non-GTA fleet. Doesn't really 'fit' with the other one, looks like it belongs in another time in another place...

Both of those are extrordinarily awesome...

Yeah, I know it doesn't look exactly like GTA tech, that we're used to, but it does look old *IMO*.

Not if you apply the registry hacks :) If you do that 512x512 textures should work fine

SUFFER. ;)

Modelling is fun, but TEAM MODELLING is where its at. I honestly think I do my best work when I'm working with other people like Codedog and Narol and Ryx. There's a synergistic effect that arises from playing about with mesh ideas with other people. :D

That is so true :) I like to do it specially with Ryx, when he models for my campaign... just the other day I told him "model me a carrier"... and he did, and then I tweaked it, and then he tweaked it, and then I tweaked it again and now it looks SUPAR!!!!!!!! :)

The first version of the mesh:

Cob,dxf and 3ds, I think. Textures and stuff (http://w1.520.telia.com/~u52018631/GTAold.zip).
As above, but LWO format (http://w1.520.telia.com/~u52018631/gtaoldlwo.zip).

Edit:
Ok here's Mikhael's version. Download (http://w1.520.telia.com/~u52018631/Carrier_mod.zip).

LODing is so-so, but should work. Textures and stuff included.
It's not complete, mind. Still all that ts stuff to do.
