Title: Local crime incidents
Post by: CP5670 on October 03, 2002, 11:18:35 am
Apparently there is some nut around here on the loose that has been randomly gunning down people on the streets at different locations from a delivery van. So far there have been five murders since last night, and from what I hear, the schools have been locked down. The suspect has not been caught yet, but they seem to be pulling over all vehicles that match the description and have closed down all roads leading out of the area.

Somewhat interesting, since this is only a few minutes away from where I live, and since there have not really been any significant crime incidents here for a long time, it's constantly on the news now.

While this is probably in terribly bad taste, I couldn't help bu laugh when I read -

"We strongly feel that all of these are connected. Certainly the weaponry seems very similar. There is not a lot of indication at this time that any of these individuals know each other," Moose told reporters.

Police chief Moose. Funny stuff.

I'm going to preempt all you offense takage by apologising right now. Thank you.

All sports were cancelled in Anne Arundel County because of this.  I goto St. Mary's in Annapolis btw.  Our school was in lockdown the whole day, no one in or out.

Some dude about a month or so ago went around the District doing drive-bys on people with a blowgun. Most of the people didn't even notice until a while later that they had this big-ass dart sticking out of them. As far as I know, they never even caught the dude that was doing it, and the news services (as usual) started shrieking aboutsome conspiracy of guys shooting darts into people, and to duck and cover whenever you saw a white car. It was probably the funniest panic in months.:D

Yah, I was working in Columbia and everyone was getting all worried. I mean we aren't that close, 20 miles? or something. People just like to panic I guess.

I remember that, that was pretty funny, I thought there was a gun show of some kind that had sold dart guns and they thought some kinds bought some and were trying them out. I dunno, was a while ago I don't really remember.

Well, it looks like they still have not caught the guy, and by now they probably will not do so anytime soon. I think they should have let the guy strike again, because if he knows he is being chased, he will just run. (and white cargo trucks are not exactly rare) Also, it seems amazing that nobody got the license plate in such a populated area.

this story was on Good Morning America today.. they interveiwed the daughter of the Taxi driver that was shot..

it's been a long time since i've seen that much cheap sentiment from a reporter.

another point, they seemed to make a big deal about how the guy took each person out with one shot. they said it i think 4 times during the first 10 minutes of the show.  I think what they were getting at is this guy may be a disillusioned ex Millatry/Armed forces, or may jus plain be a trained killer...

Officer Moose (Police Cheif) had nothing to say/add/or comment at all..

I hate to seem detached but allow me to focus on one point: He killed them with one shot.

Well, hey, I could do that at close range!

I'd profile him as an average worker, perhaps under stress from marital or work issues, who has slowly been getting more and more violent to the point its no longer committed rationally.

Hope he gets caught soon anyway.

Does roughly a year qualify as "a long time"?

A year? I see that cheap sentiment all the time on the news
Title: Local crime incidents

Yes a year is awhile, but most of the reports where actually emotional about that.. especially the ones from the east coast. I mean like "This morning in the news, a lady's sister was raped by her own cuzin, "all the members of our network send our condolensces and we hope you can abort the twins" " kinda of sentiment

Yeah, I heard about that Montgomery shooting thing yesterday. I was in DC, and we were supposed to go on a tour with a schoolgroup from that area. Nothing doing, they were locked down in their classrooms. Scary stuff.

they seem completely bemused by the fact hes using a rifle and shooting people from long distance so that its no obvious where he is.

They seem to be too used to some silly crack dealing niny holding his gun "gangsta" who has to shoot a couple of hundred rounds from pointblank to hit the broad side of a barn.

Actually, they're more interested in the fact that he got away with killing five people for no real reason in a day or so. Hell, we've all had one of those days, I don't see what the suprise is.

I think the unusual thing in this case is that it was five people in different locations.

But if the guy merely wanted maximum kills, he could have just gone into a crowded mall or something and blasted away, which would have gotten a couple hundred; not sure why he did this... :p

More interesting to him? I mean, really. It's a turkey shoot as opposed to stalking and killing- no contest, if you're a psycho.

He wants to kill some people and not die or get caught himself. Its like a sensible person with a brain going on a rampage......

He could always just place a bomb behind a trashcan or something (or anywhere it would be hard to find) in a crowded mall, run out of there, and remote-detonate it a few minutes later from his car. Nobody would suspect him. :D

Like I said, I think the point of the exercise was entertainment, not racking up the biggest body count possible. Hell, if I just wanted to defeat the US, the Capitol building would be a pile of smoking rubble by now. But I take other things into consideration, such as me being in charge in the aftermath.
