Title: OT - Networking Help
Post by: Liberator on October 09, 2002, 10:56:38 pm
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good, detailed tutorial on how to network two computers using 2 ethernet cards and a crossover cable using Windows 98se and TCP/IP? Also must be able to use dial-up internet simoultaneously.

IIRC thats automatic isn't it? A friend and I did the exact same thing when we were new to networking and managed to get several games running on it. Don't worry about dialup - since the network card is separate from the modem it shouldn't interfere.

try not to use Win9x/ME with networks.  the TCP stack is terrible in comparison to the (admittedly ripped from BeOS) version in winNT/2000/XP pro.

don't worry about both computers being able to access the internet at the same time, that's easy to do, if one computer's online, it's easy for any networked computers to access that connection

Only if you have Internet Connection Sharing or some other sharing proggie working, though. But that's detailed quite nicely in the above site I linked to.
