After being given the proper blueprints for it from Culando, and realising that whilst passable, it's still wrong, I've decided to release the Arwing on the public domain (partly because of a total lack of interest from you lot! :D )
Suggestions appreciated as usual........but remember this is VERY early (and wrong). A vastly improved Arwing should be showing up eventually! :D
EDIT: Thanks to crappy Geocities:mad2:, I have to ask you to go this way round:
Go to
//www.geocities.com/killfrenzy_the_shivan/index.htm
And there you will find a small link to the file. It's the only way to do this at the moment, and I apologise.
-
KF mate, you'd be wanting to use this link (http://www.geocities.com/killfrenzy_the_shivan/index.htm)
And that's not a bad effort at all. I know this isn't a final release or anything, but you do realise there's a hole under the starboard blue thingy, right?
-
DANG it in FS2 format! I thought it'd be in Cob or something.
-
Convert it to COB, using PCS or POF2COB

THX, DG. I'll change that in a mo.
And is there? Odd.....extremely odd........you see, I make all my models from one cube and just extrude faces and arse around with faces/vertices/points.
Could you show me exactly WHERE the hole is? Then I can try and work out what went wrong.....
Also, I want your opinion guys: Are four guns and one missile bay okay in those positions? Or do you want some stuff changed?
Also, DON'T use it in a mission where you've enabled support ships - as the Arwing has NEVER had any kind of re-supply port! :D
If anyone feels willing to make the nova bomb, be my guest - and let me have it when you're done. :)
-
Cool model, totally wrong  but cool nonetheless. And I'm glad the Blueprints will be of help. =)
-
I might be able to make the explosion. But I only have FS1 so someone would have to make the tables for FS2. Also I'll look for that hole you mentioned.

hay if one of you could convert it to pof the new and better model when it's dune I can do gun ports for it.
-
When I do a pof, I do the mesh, basic texturing, pof data, tbl data, and all the interface gubbins as well. :)
With regards to putting the Arwing into the FS universe, is the current armament okay with you guys? That's what I need to know. :)

Nova Bomb BLAST! I like it when things go BOOM! Hehehe *eye twitches*
-
Is that something you've made for the mod?
-
ya with more work it'll be a good Nova Bomb explosion.
-
Hey when are we getting a forum? I'll try to find a host until HLP hosts us.
Anyway I'm working on the Nova Bomb blast. quite interesting. I'll post some pics and an AVI when I get the conversions done.
-
Ok, now I'm going to have to use my old paper arwing (came in a Nintendo power issue) and try to make an arwing model. :D
-
And I did! :D

And before anyone asks, the zip file link is below. The model is triangulated and has a UV map. (Probably not a very good one but those are editable.) The zip has cob, obj, and LithUnwrap's lum versions. I think it's pretty good, but there is some funky geometry on the trailing edges of the wings that connects to the main hull. (Results of an edge extrude I think.) It's not too visible, but maybe someone else can find a way to get rid of it without screwing up anything. Also, the stabilizer pods (or whatever the two odd things attached to the wings are called) are connected to the angled pieces by some stuff you can't see very well normally. (If you moved them up you'd see a "bridge" connecting them.) I had trouble getting the right shape while attached (this started off as one thing) and ended cutting one off and re-attaching it. I then cut the model in half and mirrored it so the other side would match. I used an old battered paper arwing as a basis. And I'm not quite sure the wings are angled right, but it's tough to change that in Wings3D. The model is fully triangulated and still only comes to 264 polys. Have fun. :)

pretty good! what format is it in? Looks like the SNES version. Now we need a good N64 version. And could someone please tell me why we need both a SNES and a N64 version of the Arwing?
-
*Feels redundant*
I should have kept my mouth shut........:(
Besides, I'm gonna try and follow the blueprints making a higher-poly model.....
-
I'd rather be flying the old SNES Arwing, purely for the retro goodness.
Starfox would have been my favourite SNES game were it not for Zelda, Mario, Mariokart and the rest. However, let there be no doubt - Starfox is, was, and allways shall be the Dog's Bollocks. Thank you.

You're not redundant. You did a lot more stuff for your model then I did for mine. And I know that I'd be out of my depth texturing the arwing. I just happened to have an old paper model of an arwing that I worked from. (Said model would be useless for texturing though as it's not textured in any style I remember from the games.) I think mine is also the original arwing, though I don't recall what was different for the N64 version. I just made mine to see if I could. (And it was quite a challenge to do some of that stuff.) :) It doesn't have the useful extras like shield icons, interface graphics, and of course textures. But it might be useful as an additional reference, since I'm not sure how detailed those blueprints are. (Only blueprints I've seen were in a little pic with what I think were top and side views of an arwing. A 3D model you can look at from any angle can help a lot more IMHO. (This is the second non-original model I've worked on, the first being an Oberth from Robotech and I only had some pictures and stuff on my Macross & Robotech DVDs to work from for that.) I look forward to seeing your higher poly one. :)
Edit: Ok, just caught up with the other thread and saw those blueprints. Mine is definitely not the N64 version and I'm not even going to attempt to make that one, this one was trouble enough. :)
-
Of corce it was it was whay better than that rustbucket I was the most coolest one ever and it looked like a reail one too! could someone post a pic of it to show this newb how it looked.
oh and we could have two verents one with the two lasers Blue/Geen and the one with one grean laser. I could make the weapons
-
I think what we shall need to decide is what specs to actually have for the Arwing.
Number of guns (and position)
Number of missile banks (and position)
Hitpoints (hull and shield)
Shield Colour
Speed
Agility
Etc....

How about this for a thought we could have the standerd Awing be the one from SNES, and then the N64 Arwing as the second one and we could also have a nother with the two other guns under the wings that would only be for Aces. would this work? We could also keep the other good dude ships and make some new ones but please no Flak

You'd have a pretty bad memory if you'd forget that the original Starfox was flat-shaded, not textured in any way (except the background, which was a still-image for each level
-
Some of the StarFox 64 ships could be really cool in FS I think (with size adjustment of course). The Area 6 capships were some of my favorites, and the ships in Sector Y would make decent utilitarian-style workhorse fleets. As for a dedicated StarFox mod, the FS engine is definately the wrong one, as most of SF's playability had to do with the levels, not the ships.
-
True, true.
One thing we'd have to do is make up stuff since some of the levels happened on a planet (which FS can't do yet). We'd have to focus on more of the space part. Or just make up a new story!
-
Well, we'd still have to have Andross attempting to take over the place. :)
-
But there's a new Starfox game coming out for the GC, anyway...surely all the big Ninty fans can get their fix that way? I intend to...maybe (Rares sale has sort of cast me doubt on getting a GC - I was really wanting to see Perfect Dark)
-
OT for a moment: WHY does EVERYONE think that just because Rare is 'jumping ship' from Ninty, that the GC has nothing going for it? I mean, FOR GOODNESS' SAKE! There is more to Nintendo gaming than just RARE for crying out loud!
And yes, there are two Starfox games for the GC - one is SFA, and the other is being developed by Namco as a space combat game.
-
A little N64 Arwing info I got from examining an Arwing trophy in Super Smash Brothers Melee:
1. The N64 Arwing has two stablizer pods (or whatever) on each wing. The strut that holds the lower pods is where the twin lasers fire from.
2. The single laser, nova bombs, and the charge up laser all fire from beneath the nose.
SSBM would be a good source of info for a Star Fox mod because there are trophys for the Arwing, Landmaster tank, Great Fox, The Star Wolf ship, Andross, (both SNES and N64 versions) and probably the Blue Marine that can be examined up close and personal. :) (Man the N64 Arwing looks really different then the one I made. Forgot just how much they changed it.)
-
Don't suppose you can get any pics?

for that you'd need *cough* romz *cough*.

Or just buy the game. :D
I have a Gamecube - so I might just do that.
-
Starfox was one of th eBest games on N64. So many cool ships everywhere. The ID4 level with Bills ships, the bad guys, The Area 6 ships as mentioned above.
if you play it some, and pay attention, you might be able to pull out some good modeling ideas.
About the Gamecube game, i tihnk that is totally dumb for starfox.. i've only played it at best buy, but it has the Banjo Kazooie feel to it.. not kool, not starfox. If they wanted to do a StarFox shooter, they shoulda, well for one, given him a gun. And two, made it not with that Story.
ohwell, another reason to be proud that i don't have GC i spose'
-
I could lay into you about 'being proud about not having a GC' but I won't. And for your information, there is a Starfox game being developed by Namco for the Cube as we speak. And it's not like SFA - it's gonna be space combat.

Kool! :D
that's where Lobsterclaw comes in
-
Details are VERY sketchy - and no screenshots are out. But Ninty and Namco are working on it. :) It's just that Ninty is being uber-silent about anything for the Gamecube post-Q2 next year....

That's probably a good thing... Keeps fans from getting hyped up about products that will not necessarily deliver.
And besides, can anyone remember a good Nintendo game that actually came out ON TIME?
-
Well, Mario Sunshine came out on time......but I don't like it anyways.....meh......
And besides, Namco is developing the new Starfox game - and since when have THEY been on time? :D
BTW - a few more modellers, and a UV mapper are needed for the mod. :)

Argh! They already said they weren't talking about the adventure game (which is indeed out already), but rather about a game slated for next year which is more of a return to the roots of starfox
-
Yeesh - was there a sudden drop in IQs all of a sudden?
Starfox Adventures was developed by RARE (of Goldeneye fame) and is an adventure game much like Zelda.
Namco is working on a Starfox game much like Starfox64 (Lylat Wars in the UK) which has no date of release, or even screenshots yet.....
-
I just beat Star Fox Adventures. Wish it was longer. I can't wait for the shooting one. It's gonna be sweeeeeeet. *drools*
-
Well, if we all stick together and get this mod sorted, we should be able to soothe the Starfox taste buds for just long enough. :)
I could do with another modeller to ease the weight for models......
