Title: Pxo
Post by: HAF-Guntharg on October 15, 2002, 05:53:23 am
I heard that the PXO server was used for all Volition games, such as Red Faction, Summoner etc etc. So, anyone who struggles to get into FS2 and has vali hell, even though there is very little FS2 pilots, this is due to other games.

I also heard that from someone that Volition would be losing money now with FS2. I have thought about this, and cannot see for the life of me how. Could someone please try to explain so I understand?? I know, I know, Im dumb :(

I don't think PXO is being used anymore for new games, most definately not for RF and Summoner.

And I guess they could be losing money, by keeping PXO servers online.

I guess they will keep them going until they are loosing money unless they are legally restricted by a 'no sooner than date' to shut it down.

and they are. The server support is what... somewhere about 6 years after the initial release of the game.

Maybe they're monitoring the SCP, waiting for them to get some workable netcode going?

i don't think it's losing money.  it's part of the agreement that they provide PXO anyway.  also, they need their connection (speed) so why not run a server... it's not taking much electricity and apparently not much bandwidth either

He meant go to the main forums page and on the list underneath General Freespace you`ll see the SCP forum.

i know that's what he meant, but there's no list underneath "General Freespace"... general freespace is a forum.  there's a list under "Freespace" though :)

Nope. You`re misunderstanding again. Go to the Main (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/index.php?s=) forums page. See the link for General freespace. Look underneath it. What do you see? :D

Descent 3 is the reason PXO is still there, it uses pretty much the whole server. Of what bandwidth there is available, D3 uses it with 40-70 servers there 24/7, which is far more than I can say for FS2 ! Though I can't say for certain what keeps PXO running, thats the only game that's alive on it.
