Enemy Pilot: Ahh! Ahh!  He's on to me!  [fzzzt]  [electronics sizzling] ... the weapon.  Left engine [fzzzt] ...sabled!  Weapons disabled!  Sensors [fzzzzzzzzzzzt]  Help me!

[Laser firing/Explosion]

Enemy Pilot: Oh no!  Johnson!  They got Johnson!  That weapon [electronics sizzling] ...ver seen it [fzzt]..ore.  I can't see the sniper.  I [fzzzzzzzzt] ...ee him! [fzzzzzzzzt] There's ano......[fzzzt] AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! [fzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzttttt].

Introducing the R-448 Zaitsev.  The [most powerful] sniper weapon ever developed by the GTVA to be used in space combat.  Nobel gas component includes 98.2% Krypton, 1.3% Xenon, and 0.5% Radon-448(Half-Life: 0.002 sec upon impact), artificially made isotope in the massive particle accelerators of Regulus.  Within the cannon barrel itself, a small nuclear bombardment chamber filled with neutrons and Krypto-Polonium activates upon charging.  The neutrons bombard the Krypton and Polonium isotopes, causing them to fissure into other elements.  At a slim chance, a small amount of extremely unstable Radon-448 (Extremely Heavy Noble Gas) is released through a filter.  Xenon is then added to the mixture upon firing.  The laser travels at an velocity of 5200 m/s during a lifetime of about 2 seconds.  Upon impact, the Radon-448 that has not been broken apart fissures to release neutrons, which bombards the hull plating of the targeted ship to give in to radiation and collapse inward.  Currently the Zaitsev can only be mounted on the three recoiling cannons of a modified Great-War era Ursa heavy bomber.

If you actually read through that forged technical bull, you---have [little or] no life. :D

Both the R-448 Zaitsev and the modified Ursa model (The missile banks removed/some texture problems <-- too ignorant to fix) can be downloaded here (http://pages.prodigy.net/descent_fan/Dump/ursah.zip).

NOTE:  The Ursa Hybrid and the Zaitsev has NEVER been tested in-game, so it will be up to you to figure it out.  If you don't know to manipulate the tables, I --- you shouldn't even be at the Freespace Modding forums. (Excuse me, Newcomers)

Yes an0n, I'm QUITE aware of the situation.  This is completely unrelated, however. :)  Plus, I don't even live NEAR Washington D.C.

jus from the top of my head, is a sniper type weapon really practical on a GTVA fighter? Sure it has it's uses, but lets not stretch too far.

Interesting idea there.
Players won't have trouble using snipers, but what about AI...

Hmh, by the way. I've been thinking of an artillery cap ship. A ship that mounts 4 huge cannons (1 gun per side). Think of oversized Babylon 5 Nova dreadnought cannons. :D Fires very fast and big meson bolts, capable of tearing ships apart from 10km away. Corvette sized, very bad anti-fighter weaponry.

Bah, If I just have any artistic skills, I'd make a sketch...

Actually, thats a good idea. Have a wing of snipers guarding your artillary ship. Taking out the enemy fighters before they arrive within range.

i guess i just don't liek the idea of FS becomeing a first person shooter.

Generally, maybe things should just go further (4 KM range for beams is ****, there are missles that fly halfway across the world these days)

sure alot has to do with game play, but sometimes a lil realism can be nice.

IMO most things in the FS Universe are too short (beams and lasers) and most things are too slow (lasers and fighters... 80 m/s a second? :wtf: )

I like the idea.  but knight has a point about the speed issues.  Maybe somebody can make a better speed mod than the one out now, like faster cap ships(babysiting missions were horrible going 1200 M/s while waiting for a ship going 32 M/s to get from point A to point B).

To so much as to Double/Triple the speed of FS fighters would be nice.  If not for realism, deffinitly for gameplay, as flying past a Corvette in an Ursa going 42 m/s generally gaurentees death by flak and aaaf

It would be a big pain in the ass though to change this (at least there would be alot to take into accout) .. if you changed the cap ships and fighter speeds, you'd have to change all the weapons and missles to even it out.. otherwise it would suck

seriously though, the deimos, as new as it is, shouldn't be faster than the Fenris.. you'd think they would give it a rehaul or something..

hitting a small fighter 5000-10000 meters away can be... difficult. Even with the lead indicator.

now if it had zoom....

Give it anti subsystem stuff and say it's for hitting turrets and SOC covert shyte. Make sure you give it a hell long recharge time though, or it'd be too powerful. Stunaep's right, a fighter at the distances you use a sniper rifle is unlikely, but a nice slow, massive capship? That's a target...

And another sniper-type weapon is the trebuchet. It has the longest range of all Fs2 weapons, it is fast, significantly stronger than most anti-fighter/bomber-missiles etc.
