I just finished a new weapon. The pulsar.
It uses a .pof projectile & looks pretty.
here is the blurb.
After seeing a thread on HLP about using .pofs with primary weapons
I knew what I had to do. The result is the pulsar Heavy Cannon.
It is about twice as powerful as other fighter cannons but this is because
it is only ment to be mounted on Gunship class and the Ursa bomber.
I always figured the three side guns on the ursa had to be something bigger
than a normal cannon. if anyone knows of a way to allow weapons in one
primary bank but not in another let me know as it would be useful.

Do you have ACDSee? It allows you to convert.

it's not the conversion that is the real problem It's finding a screen grabber that is reliable and will run along side freespace 2.
I had a screen grabber but every time I pressed the grab key everything crashed.

You can grab screen w/o progs in FS2, just push the print screen key, it will make a TGA pic

that could have been the problem with the other screen grabber. conflicts of interest over the print screen key.

What does it do?

it detonates in a 5m blast doing 250 pts af damage. the charges are slow though. moving at 150m/s and with a fire rate of 1.5 seconds between shots. also a myrmidon can fire 5 times (5 x 2 charges) before it's out of weapon power. so in short a powerful weapon but not really suitable for fighters.
I see the snow flake thing but in game they move fast enough so they look more like plasma bolts.

do I add the glows as engine glow points or by attaching lights to the pof?
Also what colour is used as transparent in FS2? I was going to play with the texture a bit to see if some transparency would look good.

Make an engine bit in the dead centre methinks...
and true green 0,255,0 (RGB) is transparent, although older Voodoo cards (i.e. mine) have some probs.

yeah, just add glows with FSMM2 or PCS. add 6 of them (one for eachh side).
For the transparent colour, avoid it, coz unfortunately, some video cards (like the vodoo , yeah (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) ) show the green as... green.

Thanks for the tips they look much better now. I'll fix the link once my ISP is working properly again (code red problems)

no!no! let them like that, this way it looks like the light is really shading with the black behind, it's more realistic and looks like a true light effect and not a model.

hard to argue with Venom. ok the textures stay as is.
can you change the colour of engine glows?
I was thinking a light blue light might work better.

for the glows, unfortunately, it's not really possible, otherwise he would have to change the glows for all terran ships (not that it would be such a bad idea tho)
