A nice, colorful little engagement. Click the pic to get the full-sized version. Done in MAX4, both models are my own.

Jello is almost always better eatin.. unless its the green kind.

Nice ships. :D I'm not too sure about the laser blobs. Something about them is just too... cute. They don't look like they have any real oomph to them.
-
blobs are much too pixelly and childish almost. Im almost scared to ask what that ... cloud stuff is in the background and what seems to be coming from the engine of the uppermost ship. also needs some explosions.
-
Pixelly? :wtf:
And there's be explosions if there were any hits. :p Why else put shields on a ship than to stop hits? Besides, I didn't feel like trying to fiddle until I got a good explosion in MAX.
As for the bolts, I wanted something more than an overexposed white blob with a ring of blue. If you guys think they're cute go make your own.

If I could produce decent renders, I'd be doing it, rather than given you advice on yours. ;)

1). The star field shouldn't be overlapping the nebula
2). The top nebula looks as if it comes out of the ship :p
3). The lasers... MMMMM! Flying pancakes! :D
4). Ships -> ;7

Nice! very nice. The lasers sorta look like the ones rendered by my computer when I play FS .

Yeah, MAX's nebulas tend to be crummy at time.
And which are the flying pancakes? The blue ones, the yellow ones or the violet ones? Because the violet ones are flat discs, they're shield discs.

The yellow ones...

1/ The ships seem to stand 'out' a bit against the background... look a bit 'off' as a result. I'm not a big fan of the BG, actullay.
2/ Something seems 'off' about the lighting..not sure what, but maybe cos there are very large shadowed areas, and large bright areas, and not much transition between the 2... which seems odd
3/ Violet/blueish blob is too round...I think it's the shield, but it's too flat and regular IMO... maybe needs to 'curve' around the ship a bit. i'm not sure how I'd do it myself, but maybe a sort of 'cutout' bit of a cylinder, with a opaque selfilluminated map
4/ There's no real sense of motion, IMO....it seems..static, I guess.
-
It's a disc. It's not supposed to curve around the ship. Someone tell me they've seen Macross/Robotech or even IW and know what I have there..... :blah:
And contrary to what sci-fi teaches you, there is no ambient lighting in space.

The discs are the round "splashes" where weapon fire has hit the shield. Either that or its like the SDF1's point defense shield system, where they zoom those little discs all over the shield's virtual event horizon, blocking incoming stuff. Those look fine, Shrike.
The weapons fire itself is a little bit off, for my taste, as is the background. The shadows look pretty much exactly right though. :D

its a good start but you need to work on your lighting and put some motion blur in there :)
-
1. Starfield is wayyyy to bright and wayyy too dense.
2. That nebula... well, ya know.
3. Put ambient lightning. Screw if the real space has it or not, it just looks better.
-
make the center of the lasers stark white. that always works
-
the laser blobs need to be giving off light, they look like they are waaaay in front of the ships
