Title: OT - Voice simulator
Post by: RandomTiger on October 18, 2002, 06:46:02 am
This is truely amazing:

http://readplease.com/attdemo.html

I wish we could have the source for that and put it into FS2, it would be great for reading non dramatic stuff.

If anyone knows were you can get code for a half decent one put the link up and I might consider integrating it.

Hit the Microsoft website, specifically the Agent 2.0 stuff. There's links there for text to speech convertors that are reasonably low-cycle stuff. If I remember rightly, the MS-Agent is really just an animated overlay to another company's speech synthesis engine.

I don't, however, know if the source is available, or if you're going to be linking to external DLLs. I stopped playing with the Agent API ages ago. :D

Meh - is it just me, or does the downloadable program sound a lot worse than the stuff generated by the website? :doubt:

no, it's actually awesome.  you type in a text field what you want it tosay, and then it says it... you can program the voice you want it to say it in too... very user-friendly and loads of fun.

EDIT:  the name is because the original maker made it for people to annoy and talk **** (hence the name:  "**** Talker") to telephone salesmen :D

This works better than I had expected... :)

The only thing with regards to FS2 is that it seems to mess up on some of mythological names used for ships. :D

[edit] :wtf: it says Shivans like "shyvans..." :p :D

If you buy the full thing you get to tweek how it says things and stuff. Just imagine, a few years time this will be standard, hopefully part of windows.

Then you may not be reading these boards, they might be read to you!

Games could use it for non scripted interaction that is put together from a number of variables.

Try 'Sheevans' instead and it works nicely. All you need is an option in the program to replace Sheavans with Sheevans before reading.

I've seen it put been unable to actually get it to do anything.
Besides this one is of an increadably high quality.
