ok, i tried searching for an answer to this, but i could not find it.
Is there any limit to the number of ships you can have in a freespace 2 mission? I want to make a mission that litterally has two full fleets going toe to toe and i need to know what the limitations are.

99 ships placeable, does not include wing respawn. Id advise not doing large fleet battles... expecially with beams... it will lag and crash peoples computers.

We call this the "Battle of Endor" syndrome. Basically, people like the idea of having incredibly huge space battles (and hey, there is a certain level of coolness to the them), but they do, as vadar_1 said, cause big problems with system performance. Also, even if they didn't, in a battle that big, the player is going to have very little effect on the course of events in the mission, making for plenty of eye-candy but not-so-fun game play.

I should have taken a screent shot but was too busy dogding the gunfire! I mentioned a few weeks ago that during the fredding of a robotech mission I placed over 340 asteroids to hide an enemy battleship (like in the tv episode). Well due to messing with asteroid flags cause I lost collision and destruction capability, they all turned into Enemy Veritechs!!! The first Robotech civil war was on! 340+ enemy planes and 1 Zent Battleship against Vermillion/Alpha Wing, the Cat's Eye Recon Plane, and the SDF-1!!! What a mess! But damn it looked cool!
BTW It looked like all the planes killed anything even their own (everyone against everyone!!!)
Plus maybe it helped cause I got a p1.8ghz with 512 DDR mem?

I love Batles of Endor syndrom. You should have seen my first one. I had three or four destroyers, some Juggernaughts, and too many Cruiser to count. I had all of the wings from Alpha to Omega wing. No beams, I didn't know how to do music, and it was called Untitled. It still was kind of cool, well, for ten seconds anyway. Then fs2 crashed. And I wondered why.:D

This always brings up memories of Ambush at Antares, a mission me and a friend worked on that involved an (unsurprisingly) ambush by HOL forces. I think half the Vasudan Navy had defected to the HOL :D - seriously! Almost a dozen wings of enemies, with repeat waves, and an equal number of crusiers and destroyers. To top it all off, in the final version the Lucifer jumped in and raped everything! Oh the memories.... I should still have that kicking about somewhere...

Lets say, MAke capital ships as wings and there you can set how many ships will enter in battle, dunno, But fix the story, make a balance.

Basicly, if you have a fast PC, you can make a large battle (just don't overdue it!).
