from http://www.brainsinbahrain.com/:
The Brains in Bahrain Man-Machine match is over and has finished in a 4-4 draw, with two wins each and four draws. Game 8 was the shortest game of the match, a 21-move draw. The World Champion was unable to make any progress against Fritz's solid defense. It was a tremendous result for Fritz, particularly after starting out with only half a point from the first three games. Both sides said they would be happy to play a rematch.
Kramnik was the big favorite at the start and was disappointed at his failures in the second half of the match, in which he scored two losses and two draws.
He said that he had started with a lot of respect for Fritz and now he had even more for the program and the team behind it. How much respect? Well, the last time an opponent escaped from Kramnik with a 21-move draw with the black pieces it was Garry Kasparov!
For those who haven't heard, the Brains in Bahrain match was a challenge between the the Chess World Champion Vladimir Kramnik and the Chess Computer Champion Deep Fritz. Now, the Deep Blue program that beat Garry Kasparov was a machine the size of a room, and it was upgraded after every match, so it was kind of cheating. Now the Deep Fritz is a PC program, that you can buy for approx. $70 and fits on a single CD-ROM. During the match no changes to the program were made whatsoever.
So it looks like Machine is now equal to Man. Cool, huh? :)

And it will only get better from here... ;7

NO! YOU FOOLS! CAN'T YOU SEE? Ten, twenty years from now, our own machines will TURN ON THEIR CREATORS, and, with the strategic knowledge we give them with our chess software, they will have what they need to TAKE OVER THE WORLD! We will be but pawns before the queen to their mighty chess-playing prowess! What is next- will they learn the terrible secrest of... Parcheesi?
Meh, gimme Go any day.

In chess, yes. But when we get a machine that is "as good" as man in any variety of activities, I will be significantly impressed. Until then... meh.
*goes back to failed attempts at beating Solitaire on his Palm Pilot*

Soon the cubeputers will dominate us all!!

yeah, and beat us in chess :D
-
yeah, most likely it shows that when the US goes to war against Iraq, they probably should let a computer handle the strategy.

...
Isn't it great when someone takes your joke and repeats it, only in a less funny way?
Don't you hate that? Isn't it annoying? I really don't know what's with those people, do you, Stealth?:p

**** my bad dude!!! i only saw the first part of your reply ;)

HAL 9000, here we come.
[glow=red]Would you like to play a game of chess? I'm quite good.[/glow]

it doesn't mean machines are better than us it means we can be better with machines

Stealth: It's all right. I'll just file it in my subconscious, storing my resentment and festering rage and allowing it to grow over the years until one day...:D

1997 has come and gone. If the machines were gonna take over, it'd have happened by now :)
I've lost my copy of T2 and I'm not best pleased... :mad2:

I remember August 29th 1997 quite clearly. Me and the boys were sat in school, plastered with Factor 2000000 sunblock and poised to duck and cover at the slightest hint of a stealth bomber.

There's a superb techno remix of the Pinky and The Brain theme doing the rounds.

so it can beat us in chess. big deal. the human brain can preform millions of times more calculations per second than a computer.

Computers, however, can spell better...

2.5*(cos 7,2/cos 11,5)/tan 14,1
now give me the answer to that in one second sharp.
GO!

ouch
;)

It's harder to make computers understand things like speaking, and then respond to it. Also, it's quite hard to make robots to evade obstacles and stuff like that, even if it is possible already. Some things that are very easy for humans can be hard/impossible for computers right now. Maybe in the future...

Actually C.

In the English system, F is the lowest grade. So don't argue.

Then D is like 3 right?

But rather the men who program them... (Or women!) muahhhaha
Don't you people know, machines will be loyal and vauled partners of humanity (their creators). UNTIL... Someone with a beef throws a monkey wrench in the works to hurt the rest of us, ie:
SAAB: "Take a chance" caused the AI war
T2: (Skynet) taught only to kill and not to value human life, they got what they deserved.
Forbidden Planet: (Dr.Morbius) used his unconcious mind to use the Krell computers to make a nightmare creature to kill and destroy.
2001 Spce Oddessy: (Hal9000) ordered by HUMANS to lie, and if needed eliminate the crew, causing Him to go PSYCO!
I know there are other examples but have forgotten them...
I look forward to the day our machines will not just be our tools, but our partners,
besides you know you want machine domination!
YES! 7 of 9!!! Assimilate me please!!!! uh :nervous:
What are you looking at?
