You know how most of the transports 'n' stuff already have the shield mesh?...
Do I only have to add these two lines of code to the ships.tbl to make them work?:
$shields #
$shields color # # #
Do I have to add a shield icon, or can I add a shield icon to a ship under a transport flag?

transports are capships, when you lock them, you don't have shield icons, so making one is useless (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

My frieghter the ss-qmarie uses shields and it works fine when ai controlled

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. I just tested it out. The shields for transport01 work fine and so does the shield icon (I just used another ship's shield icon, but I'll make a proper one soon). It works though!
