Title: Fileplanet
Post by: diamondgeezer on October 23, 2002, 12:35:13 pm
OK - is it just me or have the public servers gone uber-****e recently?

Since they started flogging their 'personal' servers, I've barely been able to get owt from the public ones. I get into line OK, but after a few minutes it reloads the 'Want to wait in line?' page. I get the impression that FP are trying to 'force' me to pay for a personal server, and frankly they can shove that up their cyber-arse.

Anyone else had this problem?

it's worth it to have a personal account...

that or you can download pretty much anything they have from peer-to-peer networks, but i must admit that since 2000 they have gone down.  oh well, i guess since they're free we shouldn't complain! they're still awesome  :D

Maybe I'm just not downloading the right stuff, but I've never really ran into problems with FP.

That usually happens when the window times-out on a refresh, so it pops you back to the beginning. But if you right-click and choose back, and then Forward, you should be able to resume your place in line.

Same goes for me actually; I don't download stuff from there unless it is absolutely impossible to find the things elsewhere. It was actually a very nice site around 1999 or 2000 but it has gone way, way down the drain since then in my opinion. FP is about the one and only part of Gamespy that I really, really do not like. :p

Best thing to do is to get the exact filename of what you want to download, and go to www.filemirrors.com and search for it. Usually comes up with 5-10 mirrors, most of which are available. :)

Fair enough - must just be me, then :)

Cheers for the tip, Sarny

[EDIT] Damn, but that font makes 'rm' look like 'm' *hint*

Never had a problem.

Never GONNA have a problem, either, so long as the CEO's wife doesn't do anything stupid like try to escpe again. Last time the dogs got at her before she reached the minefield, and I almost lost my leveraging.

Or you can try Fileshack. Seems ok.
