Title: Model Contest
Post by: Stryke 9 on October 25, 2002, 01:27:43 pm
I don't think this part of the main page is still updated, but it's high time for one, anyway. Your own models, bonus points for being working FS mods, with a short explanation of what the hell it is.

I can't get to my computer to upload my really nice stuff, but here's a starter:

Underside:

1k-long flagship (I might change it to 1/2k- I've been using metric scale like it was English, so I'm probably off by a lot), the entire top's a power plant for the two lateral LR laser arrays. The smallest heavy capship I've got for the Coalition by far.

We had a second one of these, but it never went through. Oh, well, what's the max amount of models we can submit?

How 'bout two, but you can edit your post and replace them if you really want to?

We shall see. I've improved the Kami a fair bit, and I've got some other models that I might feel like releasing...

nope, coz last time we couldn't use already made ships, and there's no way I'll make a ship just for a contest, I don't have any spare time for that.

Who says you can't use ready-made? I don't have anything that's not for some other project or another, and I'm sure as hell not gonna be disqualified from my own contest... c'mon, bring it!

You know, it's really just plain sad that on an ostensibly modding-based forum nobody can be arsed to show their mods anymore, if they have any. I give up. Screw this- go home, kids. Someone lock this thread before it turns to cream cheese porn or something, because I can tell right now nobody's gonna post ****.

Thnx. It has 3 :D
BTW, how do you make your models? Do you edit pre-made basics, or do you use the vertex/face technique (making 3 vertices, then joining them with a face)?

huh? depends, sometimes I start from a cube, sometimes I extrude a spline, sometimes I even build a shape with splines and apply a surface modifier. And no, I haven't built a model vertex after vertex, poly after poly, since when I have stopped using 3ds3. strange question.

its not so much understanding as getting it right.  Photoreal scenes? one thing.  Photoreal character animation and IK rigs?  another thing.

it's just a matter of how much time you spend on it. anyway, I have yet to see someone making photoreal movements with CS. If you want that, you go with motion capture.

im using straight bones....CS feels a little too clunky for what i want to do with it, sadly :(

anyway...i might be able to get away with some slightly odd poses since the character will be cel shaded.

Well I haven't got something realy good, but I thing "Why not post them" so here is a small semple of what I have done...there are some more, but I haven't got them OL.
If anyone want to have one of them for a mod fell free to contact me.
When you look at them remember they where made to run under FS not to look great.
(It could take some time to load the sites)

I'm still trying to get the Templar Textured.  Anyone wants to do it?  It will be a Vasuda Destroyer during the 14 year War.

I do have this, but the angle doesn't really show what the hell it is.

It's a cruiser, Kurruk-class. 2 Slash beams, 4 AAAf (or a tricky pulse turret I made for in game [the story line around it cannot allow beams]), and the like.

It does work in Game. I'm going to be sending it to my buddies in U.S. for testing, but not yet. Also has a customizable plate for individual nameplating (GTC Gavin is in this pic, I believe)

Do I get extra points for this being my first real attempt at making a model, and for it being made out of a cube? ;7 (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/qm/pub/snipes/Kurruk_in_Action_firefight.jpg)

Hmmm... Right now, my Kamigoto v1.4 is very much a WIP (I haven't even started the rear section, or the upper deck details), but here ya go.

Blockade cruiser-carrier, its main function is to be really friggin' huge, with all the attendant armor and weaponry.

It's basically the old one with maybe a hundred new turrets and an improved bridge section.
