Title: Joystick Calibration
Post by: diamondgeezer on October 27, 2002, 06:50:38 pm
OK, I needs a little advice with me stick (pardon the expression)

Basically, I'm not getting the full responsivness I'd expect, and I think it is to do with the way I calibrate it. Example - when I fly me Typhoon, which is a 9-g aircraft, I struggle to pull more then a 6-g turn - the stick simply won't let me turn harder, no matter how hard I yank the bleeder. Also, in FS2 I turn left and up much faster than I can turn right or down, no matter what I do with the game settings.

When I go throught the calibration and I roll the stick in full circles, am I supposed to do this particularly hard? Do I go in alternate directions? When I'm done do I let the stick reset to center before I advance the wizard? Same with the throttle - do I whack it up and down as hard as I can?

What is the 'correct' method for such things?

And no-one telling me to use the keyboard, cos I just plain won't :p

[EDIT] Good point, Warlock - it's a Saitek ST110, about a year old, not too heavily used

1: Type of stick ?
2: Age?

I normally run through all calibrations at max reach (side to side/front to back/rotationals/throttle) at least three times each.

Now it also depends on the stick,... some (most) have one spot you just leave the stick centered and hit next,...some have it before and after you move it around.

Hope it helps a little.

I started having problems with my joystick which could be resolved in the short term by smashing it really hard against the table.

Unfortunately this caused long term damage and it just plain doesnt work any more. I dont recommend smashing agaisnt table as a calibration technique.

Saitek ....I've had some issues with that brand b4. The Cyborg 3d has NEVER worked right ....always jumped.

Year old eh ? Well I noticed on my old Cyclone 3d (interact) after bout 9 months it lost some sensitivity.

Sadly I noticed this during a big Squadwar match lol.

Sometimes the servos (motors or wtf ever lol) get worn out een under light use.

I've picked out my next stick thou ....going for yet one more Saitek to add to my X 45 and Cyborg 3d....the Cyborg Force :D Looks kickass....$40 for a forcefeed back stick that doesn't have a bse as big as my chairseat :D

I sure hope you didn't mean Typhon, because those massive destroyers just don't handle like they should.

Thats what happens (the joystick thing above not the ST thing) when you buy cheap goods....

Never had a problem with my

Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feed Back 2 £89.99

apart from installing it in win98.... heh but the control is smooth and the

Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feed Back 2 £89.99

has never gone flunky (unlike my Saitek X36! £89.99 - oddly enough)

any way my favourite joystick is
