*raises hand*

could I have it too. Bump mapping all FS fighters was a job hard enough, and we could all be sharing and such.

very nice!  Just wondering... it looks like the vortex is near the end of the orion.  try deleting a little of the orion, so that it looks like it hasn't completely emerged yet.

i'm no renderer, so i'm in no position to tell you what to do, but it looks awesome as it is too! gj

and the light in the middle move it a lot back cause it looks as if it is emerging from nowhere :)

What all the FS fighters are bump mapped? Where? Im currently making the Ursa skin 4 times bigger and re-detailing it then bumping it, and the deminos is half finished. Before distributing i think i wana get a few more done.

As for that light on the side of the ship, that is from the node. I only have 2 lights in the scene, one local light with a fall off distance equal to the node diameter and one infinate light also coming from the node direction. So that bit of light must just be getting through a small gap

Awesome:yes:

it looks great except for the ;ight and that the node looks a little small to me..otherwise, nice job

Now don't get me wrong here, boy, when I said all FS fighters, I literally meant All FS1 Fighters - Apollo, Valkyrie, Herc and Uly. Used the high-res maps. I'll have to dig them up from my hard drive and resolve some stupid clipping issues, but I guess I can post them here.

Ashrak: Bump mapping is easy in LW;)

who would be with me if we started a project to bump map and add detail to the entire FS2 fleet. This would mean better renders and possibly even have them in-game one day.

Any volunteers?

Thats a great idea. Personally I am determined to see that bumpampping gets put in though I dont know the details of how it would work yet.

If anyone does start to put together a pack of bumpmaps could they please keep me informed. :)

what about higher poly counts, are they being put in? Because alot of the ships have detail which can be moddeled on for more realism.

Very nice, it makes sense to do the capital ships first because you notice it on them cos they move less.

Hey Riven, give me an e-mail (you'd turned it off and I've turned off my PM)

It works fine for me..it depends on ho much % you use on the bump map.

Umm..you do know that adding a bump map is rediculously easy....right?

Yeah, I know the engines are a tad bit bright in the second pic but its still a WIP.  I'll eventually get it right when I have more time to work on it.

thats nice work vertigo. it seems that different app's rendering engines handle bump maps in different ways. The Truespace engine will make a complete foul up if you just put the original texture in the bump chanel. Anyway we are trying to make the best possible bump map and textures so quality is essential. Also i'm fine tuning the reflectance values and adding the odd light.

I hope that Realization may even turn into a renderer's resource, so you won't have to extract models and muck about with them, you can just download them in whatever format you like. Also having tutorials on it and other files such as beam and laser models and textures. Backgrounds, planets etc... for those that don't have glitterato and lunarcell.

Anyway your render sure does look good vertigo (apart from the hanger entrance is brown because it doesnt like the invisible texture). What format is it in, and do you want to join realization?
Looks like you could right some mean tutorials.

Just remember to use the hi-res maps if you're bumping the Fenris, Lucifer, and FS1 fighters.

I still like Rivens.  The extra work really makes it "feel" textured.  The others don't somehow.

Riven: Actually, I used a different texture than the invisble one.  I'll prolly use that same texture thats on ths nose of the Orion.

btw, I use 3D Studio Max R2.5.  I'm in the process of converting all the game models to MAX.  With that, and college...I don't really have the time for any big projects. (which is why I only post here occasionally)

Nope, sorry. trueSpace is fine at bump maps:

Not all that visible, but the area near the rear, as well as the "jaw" area, has some nice bump effects.
