Title: High render quality project - Sounds good? Sign up here
Post by: Riven on November 01, 2002, 12:35:00 pm
I recommend looking at the Orion bump map thread first to see what we are aiming for.

We would need bump mappers, texturers and eventually moddelers. Could work out good. If we got hosted then everyone on the team could have access to the latest versions of the high detail models for their renders. Then when we have a large number done we can release them to everyone. Don't need to worry about web design, thats my specialty.

If you want to join then leave your name and contact details (email and or msn messenger details) in this thread and i'll get back to you on what is happening.

You can contact me on [email protected] ([email protected])

Warning:  I'm volunteering to do whatever, but I'm (barely) learning Lightwave, and I can't model in Truespace... so, it may take me a while to get some things back, but I have a fair amount of time I can put into it.

Uh... you mean "bump mapping" as in the process that takes all of ten minutes for a really complicated ship? Really, all you have to do is copy the color info into the bump channel for FS ships, and you've got it bump-mapped as accurately to the naked eye as it ever could be.

Yeah, sure Shrike9, i did just that but it looks a mess. The bump map is greyscaled and the lighter the grey the higher the bump, so the dark "runs" on the highest panel on an orion are very low while the panel, being a mottled blue and purple colour are up and down all over the place.

I'm talking about making top quality bump maps that will give the best results. So hey, if you dont like the project Shrike9 then you won't want the finished models will you?

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered, I'll get a site organised, make a jobs list, and email you all.

Great project! I would like someone from it to contact me and talk about this. I've just cracked off another DX8 bug bringing it closer to completion and it would be well worth considering code implications in this project.
