Ever wondered why FS2 "laser" cannons only travelled at 450 km/s? Looking for some more variety in the FS2 primary weapons? Try these!
Painstakingly constructed to recreate the original weapons' appearance, sound, and play balance values, these beams are the Subach and Mekhu the way you always imagined them to be.
Note that these require the latest versions of Bobboau's fighter beam code, so fs2_open verion 3.2 will not support them. Source code builds dated after November 1, 2002, are required. Sorry, folks.
Screenshots (http://www.angelfire.com/space/sesquipedalian/misc/subachbeams/subachbeam.htm). One can sort of see the effects of the beam tile translation by comparing screenshots two and three.
To get a build that supports these, either download the latest source code from fs2_open and compile it, use this build (http://www.angelfire.com/space/sesquipedalian/FS3.zip) that Bob made for testing his beam code (it's a debug build, but it works), or just wait for the next official release (which I understand may be coming soon-ish).

Not sure what he is getting at. Bobboau's source MOD for TBP always crashes on my comp.

I've had no end of problems with Bobboau's source release for the fighter beams - not in the least of which is using custom tbls. And of course for some wierd reason NO ship can carry the weapon, despite the fact that it's fully tbled.........
I don't know about you guys, but I kinda need a fully functional fighter beam build, with FRED implementation.

I haven't even been able to use Bobbaou's fighter beams. Could you make these for the fs2_open?

fs2_open version 3.2 does not have the necessary code to support these. The beam code in there is rudimentary. Bob has refined it greatly, and those refinements are needed to support these beams.
There is talk of an imminent release for version 3.3. It will have the code to support these beams.

Just give me a stable beam build with shield hits and NO MESSAGE IN THE CORNER and I'll be happy. :)

try this (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/blackwater/newglowfs.zip) one, it was for the new glow point code but it should have the latest fighter beam code and as far as I know no debug mesages (other than in third person veiws)
oh and if you have any older version glow point models make sure you get rid of them, or make sure this build can't find them, the format has changed and it'll crash if it trys to load any of them

Game crashes when I try and shoot the Subach HL-7.

and if you get a crash put yp the last few lines of the fs.log

Doesn't give me an error log. It just does like I pressed Esc-Shift, and turns off the game. I think it is the Beams, not your code.

there is no file in you're fs root folder?

There is, but nothing about this particular error.

well if there is a fs.log in you're FS root directory, open it and copy and paste the last ten/twenty lines and post them here, if the FS.log is empty tell us that, it could give us some idea were it is crashing

How are we supposed to do glow points now?

the new pcs, I should probly upload it some time
have you made a lot of glow point models?
if so I could probly make a build that would convert them

Only every ship for the Swarm War which is currently about 8 and rising.
