Yes, it's based on an hostorical book.

well, more on the plot here, as in the translation of the trailer (just to make myself sound special, I was at the film's premiere, you know where the director makes a speech and everyone applaudes, and then there's the orchestra and the red carpet and the Hennessy and such like):
The year is 1918. A new name is written on the map of Europe.
But freedom has it's price.
Students go to war for their views, and their freedom.
As a reward, they'll get love.... fatherland... or names in granite.
Names in granite. In cinemas on November 1st.
(and yes, the official english name is Names in Granite. You get to see it, if you live in Estonia or Finland).

oh yes, it's based on a historical book, written in the 1930-ies, named, surprisingly, Names in Granite. The book, as the film is about the Estonian Freedom War (1918-1920). When the Germans left our country, there was a small amount of time before the russians came to conduct a mobilisation of forces. It failed miserably. So, Estonia had to rely solely on volunteers. From a population of approx. 900 000 back then, 90 000 volunteered. A large number of them were students from 10-12 grade. And the film tells a story of a class, who volunteers to fight in the war, and whatever happens to them. Basically, what happens is love, treachery, a lot of explosion, excellent actors, and Estonias best director.
