To put it simply "I leech off my parents" :p

I plan to take up a job in one of the following: graphics/programming/art/audio engineer/mechanical engineer/pure scientist/pure mathematician/philosopher :p

Same thing as above, except that my choices are restricted to only the last two. :p :D

Are those last two even jobs? don't you have to be like a Uni profesor or something to even make money?

Do you mean what job you have now, or what you want it to be?

Cause for me those are really two different things

Yes, I guess that would be my actual job then, but in one of those subjects, probably math. :D The pay sounds good enough (about $150k/year) although it cannot compare to what you would get in the corporate sector, but the work would not be work at all and you get much more freedom than with a corporate job. And of course, you get summers off to do what you please. :D

I'm not employable, in the strictest sense. Once in a while, I manage to get an odd job doing landscaping work (of the construction, ****-hauling variety, more than the rake-yer-leaves-for-ten-bucks variety), or webpage design. I'm trying to get a good job as a 3D designer, but since I can't stand Lightwave and have no experience at all with Maya, it's tough.

uh I originally was just thinking of Jobs now, but f\/ckit, the thread will most undoubtedly go its own way, something along the lines of "I really hate Avril Lavigne, that ugly wh0re" in 30 posts or so anyways..

I really don't see what your source for this concern is considering it seems to be relatively on topic here... ah well, perhaps you can predict the future

Heh, oh yes I forgot one of my favorite jobs: "corporate freak" (which largely involves bribings, tricking, hauling pieces of green things representing odd concepts, and of course the occasional assasination) ;)

Pure mathematics sounds like somehting I'd like to do though, math just for the hell of it (for the advance of math that is) Fits with my loose set of belief-like-things. ;)

I'm a full time university student, so.......

I basically live off of previously saved money. :)
And sort of off the scholarships I won at highschool.

I don't aquire my money, I loose it. Here's how.

I used to work for Llyods bank as a monkey typist type person (although I was the fastest they had - and they said as much ;)) However following the trouble with the big American corporations problems they decided to make a load of people redundant, including me.

Of course, they chose the worst possible time to do this-  right after I'd almost emptied my bank account to splash out on a GeForce4 4600 and a BB Rifle.

So, I'm not almost broke.. however monkey working jobs are being searched for as we speak. I shall be rich again ;)

I actually did work in a place where McDonalds (and Wendys, and Burger King, and Hardees, etc etc) bought some of their stuff including all those neat little sauce packets you get with your happy meal. I didn't work on the line though, but rather in the accounting department. Fun times.

Right now though, I'm a currently unemployed college student that needs money in the worse way. (some crap with my living arrangements came up, now I need $1800) Will you give me a job?

i'm a waiter... part time... at a restaurant.

the wages are half of minimum wage (around $2.57 an hour... which in itself is horrible) but you get to keep all tips, which averages anywhere from $10.00 an hour to $30.00 an hour depending on the day and time of day.

i also get some money making webpages here and there, but i'm souping up my car in the next few days (i'm putting switches (hydraulics) in it) and so that's about $900.00 right there, then the system is going to be another $500-700.  gah!

"Leeching from parents" is good, but i feel i need a job these days to keep myself amused, so since i'm still at school i'm just looking for something part time... which is proving to be quite hard.

Eventual plans are leave school at end of this year -> Aerospace engineering at uni -> job in relevant field.

Well, I hold to the philosophy that if I'm going to spend 40-60 hrs/week doing something, I had #$@% well enjoy what I'm doing.  So I play...err program video games.  BIG video games in the flight sim genre.  :D

I work for a company that builds FAA/CAA certified full flight simulators used to train pilots.  I specifically program the propulsion simulations.  I've worked on simulators for everything from a Falcon 50EX business jet to a Boeing 777.  My favorites are the helicopter sims (Bell 412, Sikorsky S76 and Blackhawk).  They're a PitA to program but a hoot to fly.

Hydraulics? damn not you too.. I won't insult you publically but.. damn.

I thought minimum wage was.. minimum. But i guess that's good, although i have alittle thing against waiters.. those who suck in particular :)

It involves a little game that you might recognise if you watch a certain sitcom. You start off with say.. 5 dollars. Thats the most the waiter will get if they are excellent. Now everytime the waiter asks your 15 year old lil brother if he wants a child menu/ brings the wrong food/ spills/ is slow/doesn't have your dressing/ etc etc you take away money. Now if they prove themselves to you again, you give a little back.

It turns being at the sharp end of some waiter's (;)) clumsy ineptitude into great fun while waiting 20 minutes for your meal :)

To keep on topic, i have a chore system worked out with my father kinda..  I'm thinking of trying to get a job at the local family supermarket or perhaps video store. Something easy i can do on weekends i suppose. Suggestions?

wow, a lot of stuff to reply to!  It's federal law (i think) for every worker to get paid minimum wage (at least)... and in reality that's what i get... plus i get to keep a PERCENTAGE (note:  a percentage) of my tips.  i was just speculating, because overall i think the least i've ever made in a one-hour period was about $6.00, which is still above minimum wage.

so really, on my paycheck i'm given minimum wage, plus all tips, but when you deduct the total tips i made (the entire thing... remember i don't get to keep all of them) ... i dunno, i'm tired... don't worry about me though, i'm very happy with the money i get! :)

oh, and what's wrong with having hydraulics?  you think that's bad?  wait till i get nitrous ;7
just kidding... can you see a 1980 cadillac with NOS? :p  ;)

Haven't read all that you people are. I'm amazed that some of you acculy have lives. That, I think, contradicts much of what I thought. 'Cuz I don't have a life! I'm an outcast. Shunned by my fellow man. So I left and bought computer games. And I found FreeSpace. Now I'm with, what I thought were, no lifers. Now I must bid you farewell and leave because of that.

Oh and to earn the money needed for this lifestyle I am a paperboy :p. Good money, about $5-8 (day) for an hour or less of work in the morning. ;) ;7
