*Gone, But Not Forgotten*
(http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/qm/pub/snipes/Galatea_webversion.jpg)
--Edit--
What? Has the IMG tag been disabled?!
Fix0r3d, silly - no parenthesis! // Sandwich
-
Hmmm, I dunno... the lack of lighting on the Galatea seems to contradict the lighting on the planet (Arrakis, anyone? :p ).
The perspective is also kinda.... fishy. ;)
-
the engine my little eye spots 4 point and 2 spotlights + adittional GALATEA tag light :) + a constant flaming pear background (the clouds on flaming pear suck)
-
The Ship's angle has her looking a bit distorted to me.
And what's so bad about flaming pear done BGs? For ppl just getting into rendering I wouldn't expect them to completely model and render a nebula :)

Because making a nebula and planet is damn easy. :)

Looks alright to me. Kind of like a higher res FS1 background.

If it were I'd think we'd see more ppl doing that :D

Errr...how does one model a nebula?
-
I _think_ there's a tutorial for it on 3dcafe.com ,...basically particals and such.
(EDIT)*sigh* I can't spell today it would seem.

Thanks for the link, Ryx - I'll catch you online someday, you know. Really - I will! Honest! :p

Sand...if you have any luck with that .... lemme know,...I've tried the neb as well as the phaser and photon torp tuts there with no luck at all :(
My torp came out looking like a North Star on crack :D  I think it was really written for either an older or newer version of max than 3.1
-
Or there's the blender way. hehe I'll look up the tutorial.

Hehehe - will do, but you know, there's always either Photoshop or Illusion... Here's some examples of both:
Photoshop - my memory is horrid, or I would give credit to the person who rendered the original Enterprise here, but I forget who it was. Anyway, I simply added a phaser in Photoshop.

Second, an example of what kind of animation work can be done in Illusion - a number of examples, actually. :D- A Better Mousetrap (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/qm/pub/sandwich/a_better_mousetrap.avi) (392 KB) - this was the first thing I tossed together with Illusion - no sound, but quite fun(ny).
- Subspace (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/qm/pub/sandwich/subspace_sound.avi) (313 KB) - This one was just a test to see how closely I could emulate the FS2 subspace effect. Adding in the seperate left and right sound channels helped, of course. :p
- Supernova (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/qm/pub/sandwich/supernova_lq.avi) (6,736 KB) - This one was truly fun. I used sounds from FS2 in combination with a number of effects from add-on packs, and the result, well - judge for yourselves. :D
-
I've got some semi-decent nebula results by just using an inferno lensflare on a light.....

Shades man shades ............someone give me some shades!!!!
lol
Serious thou...that's pretty cool looking.

What's so hard about slapping a noise map in the background?

Thats what I was thinking. :p Modelling a noise map isn't possible.

Why would you when you can do this in PSP?
Hehehe ;7............Yes Vertigo1 SAVE FARSCAPE
-
how do you do that?
-
Hehehe Well first you use FlamingPear and build a nice looking Neb then using PSP or any other PaintProgram that has a tool called Pinch or something like it .... Group an area at the center of the Image and just pinch it ...easy.........8) and Iam glad to be back haha
