OK... make what you will of this (since I cannae be arsed to post the screenie, I'll just transcribe the event log for you):
0:01:13 Pax Arrived
0:01:15 Taurus Arrived
0:01:23 Pax Destroyed Kill Alastor 08 (66%)
:wtf:?
-
Of what class is this peaceful, and ever-so-quickly pieced, spaceship?
-
Oh yes, I should have pointed out - this is from the first Raptors mission in the FS2 campaign. 'King's Gambit', I believe.
-
I don't remember the exact events.. but it just seems like an enemy killed a friendly ship?
-
You lot suck!
You're supposed to have played this mission a hundred times - the Pax was a Deimos corvette, yes? Starting to see where I'm going with this?
-
What mission number is that?
-
:wtf:
*suspects piss-takage*
The first Raptors mission. The blockade, where you first fly the Artemis. I know you know which one I mean, so stop it.
-
No, goofball, I meant the its identification as an actual .fs2 file.
Okay, maybe filename would have been clearer. But never mind, I found it myself.
-
:wtf:
You know, I always wondered about how well FS2 really calculated who got credit for killing a ship. I now have serious doubts indeed.

the one who gets the last shot, most likely.
-
Not likely, IT IS the one that takes the last shot...
-
Kills are calculated by the damage applied by the NON-CAPITAL ships. So, if Alastor 06 inflicted 66% of the damage to the Pax among all NON-CAPITALS, then he would get the kill.
The same way you get the kill for the Sathanas in High Noon
-
You do appreciate the point of this, though, right? An Alastor sentry gun managed to...
Oh no, hold on a minute... you saying that the cap ships and mjolnirs(?) basically killed the Pax, but the Alastor got off a couple of shots and was thus credited for the kill?
-
The could have been extremely powerful shots.
But to your point, the 'kills' systems does seem to ignore the damage caused by big ships.

The kill is awarded to the Non-capital-ship who gets the greatest percentage of shots at the target. All others are awarded an Assist.

Exactly. Whoever inflictes the most damage gets the kill. Not who gets the last shot. Hey, do you ever read manuals? :D
Or then it was not mentioned in FS2 manual but FS1 manual :p

I think I know what happened here, but first, let me explain how the kill system works. The kill is not awarded to the ship that gets the last shot, but the ship that does the most damage. The damage inflicted must also be above 30%; if the ship with the highest percentage has less than that, nobody will get the kill. Finally, beams do not count for kill points for some reason. If a ship is damaged by beams, the game acts as if the ship only had its original strength minus the amount of damage done by the beam and only uses this value when determining kills. It's weird, but that is how it works. :wtf:
So what probably happened here was that the Pax jumped in, was shot up by the the Hedetet and the Mjolnirs with beams only, but a nearby Alastor happened to get a couple of shots on it while the beams were firing. The Alastor could not have gotten the last shot since its Subach HL-7s do not have the "big ship" tag, so the beams got the kill and did almost all the damage; out of whatever Pax hull strength that did not get damaged by beams (a very small amount), the Alastor got most of the kill.
You lot suck!

hey I recognized what mission this was right after seeing "Pax" in there... :D

Glad someone did...
I'm surrounded by idiots...

Does anybody know what this expression is supposed to mean? Who's piss are you taking? Where are you taking it from? Where are you taking it to? What do you do with it when you get there? After you take it, do you put it back?
I've incorporated a lot of British vernacular into my brain, but this one continues to confound me.

I think, in this case, piss refers to alcohol.
I'm fairly sure you knew that already and are, naturally, taking the piss yourself. ;)
-
Yes, Zylon made the same post almost word-for-word back on the VBB
-
Um, you guys can test this is the mission with the Belisarius. I think that's the first or one of the first missions. Just fly over to the Deimos and put a couple of missles in it and wait until it's taken out. You'll see you get the kill for it even though you've put maybe 1% dmg on it.

So when you say, "Boy, she really took the piss out of him!", it means somebody stole his drink? :wtf:
-
And to think I was starting to miss Zylon being around... :)

No it means she was "mocking" him in that case.
-
But that'd be odd, cos what comination of dialects would use the phrase 'boy' and 'took the piss' like that?
Nice location BTW, Wildfire. There's an Aussie bar near me called that :D

Does anyone know how this would work with the fighterbeam code? Does that count as a beam weapon and thus not a scoring weapon?
