Instead of using the targeting laser for a fighterbeam, it would be great to have a sixth beam type, so that custom fighter beams can actually be done.  I admire your progress you've made so far as far as the beams go, but it's not really it's own beam.  I'd like to see a more authenticated version of beams on fighters, and I don't think it can be done as well on a tweaked targeting laser than one made from scratch.  That way, we could have custom beam types, including whether to warmup/warmdown or not, whether it can be charged or streamed, shield piercing or not, etc.  I know it would be harder to do that, but the ends should justify the means.  Anyway, whatever you do, I'll stand behind it (as long as it isn't something ridiculous ;)).  Good luck with your work, and...  OUCH!  MY TOE!!:mad: :mad: :mad:

Wouldn't this kind of stuff be better handled using weapons.tbl flags anyway?

Yes.  That's kind of the whole point.  Type 2 beams totally ignore most of the weapons.tbl stuff.  What I mean is like it doesn't matter if you have a 307 Y with Vortec heads, you still have a 307.  Im gonna say the same for the beam project.  True fighter beams were not made in this game, and we have seen the proof of that.  I say the best way to do it is just to create another one, made specificly for fighters, not a souped up something that wasn't.

Warmups and warmdowns are in the works.  As for the fighter beams not being real fighter beams, what exactly are you talking about?  They're beams, and they're on fighters.  Here, try this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,11160.0.html).

They wouldn't be that hard to aim with, as long as they had maybe three seconds of fire time. Then you could just wave it around.

Alternatively you could go for the 'Starlancer Nova Cannon' approach......
