Title: Howdy, and 'lil minor help please.
Post by: Eviscerator on November 11, 2002, 12:18:56 am
Evis has a wee bit of a problem. Well, it's kinda big, for me anyway. My hard drive was infected with a worm that ate 3 years of MOD work and, unfortunantly, ate my backup CD too. Not only did I lose all my stuff and am gonna need to start over almost from scratch, but I lost most of the stuff folks have sent me over the years and stuff folks have directed me to.

I'm lookin for a couple things that I'm gonna need that are eluding me:

1: The current location of the Freespace 2 Sector website. It appears to have pulled up stakes and moved.

2: The PVD Cobra maps Dark made for the Imperial Star Destroyer years and years ago. I saved the model, but the maps were eaten and I can't find Dark's uk email addy allowing me to bug him.

3: Direction to any sources of ship MODS for the last few years would be a big help. I've seen a lot of the latest stuff, what I'm lookin for is the older stuff I lost.

Any help you can give to help me jumpstart my recovery process would be mucho appreciated. Thanks!

First off,
(http://members.cox.net/wmcoolmon/images/welcome.gif)

(heh, second time i've used this today)

flamethrowers under the seats, exits on the sides and in the back, enjoy your stay.

second: ouch that sucks. Had that happen to my dads comp, minus the MOD work.

third: FreeSpace Sector is dead for now, i believe, talk to Hunt Smacker on these borads or one of the admins about it. They know more than me (i hardly went there)

4th: I dunno bout' dark, he never rears his ugly head round these parts much anymore :(

5th: VolitionArchives is great.. i'll be back with linkage

Here We Are (http://archives.volitionwatch.com/)    , note that the site is currently down :(

VW archives also has (had) the Cobra maps. If you're interested there's a new Star Wars mod hosted here now. Were you ever on F2S? I frequented that forum... I miss Jeeves and Cerebral... :(

F2S is ... unlikely to return. It's not gone, but unlikely. Hunter posted in the TI forum that he'd gotten a partial refund after being screwed over by his host, and that it would come back, then...nothing. :(

*Reminds himself to backup more often*

How did a worm eat your CD's? Were the files already infected or something when you burnt them?

I think that's what happened. It was couple days before I noticed that something was wrong and I had backed up on the CD with infected files before then and didn't know it. The viscous little thing then ate everything on there. I knew something was wrong when the RW drive ran for a lot longer than it should have. That was my forst indication.

Amazingly, the thing knew to hit Norton first, and *totally* chewed it up. I've never seen anything get past Norton, but this thing ate it like a Ravana with PMS.

Yeah Aldo, you were the first person to come to my mind so I emailed you first. Good to see ya. I'll try yer old site tonight, since you were awesome enough to provide the link. THANKS! :)

I used to hang out at F2S all the time, but never posted anything. I'm real sorry to hear that it maybe dead. I'll miss Jeeves alot. :sigh:

First thing I noticed in my search was the VW Archives being down so no lucky there.

I'll keep pluggin at it I guess. If anybody has got Dark's email addy on them or knows where I can locate the skin, please let me know. Oh, I'm lookin for the GTCv Nike too. I was countin on F2S to get it back, but.. well.. ya know.

Hey, if anybody feels the need to totally waste some time, email me anything ya got. I've got 50 megs of inbox space on my host email addy. [email protected]

Thanks again.

Guess I'll start work recoding tonight. Maybe I can get the Maser and Photon Emitter done and working before I pass out from lack of Z's.

I sent the .pof and ships table (long list)

I sent you my weapons file (hope you like)
If you need the .pof's let me know which ones you want.
Any ships you want other than nike give a yell. (but I need to know what maps are called I have TOO MANY!)

I suggest you get expanded table limits zip (forgot where) and DTP's FS2 .exe That supports the expanded limits...
L8tr..

fs2_open3.3 supports a limit of 900 kbs per table ( I think ) and you get all the other cool stuff like player flak ( That doesn't blow up in your face ) and player beam cannons.

Thanks for the help guys! It's a start anyway. I've rebuilt a bunch of stuff already. Hopefully I can get the rest done again by summer.

OT - I'm gonna miss the f2s forum. It was so small and friendly like. I joined there because I thought I wasn't good enough for the HLPBB, then after a while, I figured stuff out, went here, and a few months later had the TVWP up and running.

BTW - I was Warlock over at F2S. I wasn't aware of any other Warlock until I moved here...

ah... a new one!

[glow=red] WELCOME TO HLPBB![/glow]

Exits are to the rear and left in case of emergency and shotguns *and flamethrowers* are located under the seats.

Don't go near the airvents and if you see any black, penta-limbed things near the airvents, run like hell. Knife fights are strictly prohibited in favor of more interesting rocket launcher duels and paper mache wrestling (oh boy....).

Once again, that's enough of me...

Thanks. I had already found it and have it qued for download tonight. The post confused the heck outta me though.

Lemme get this straight, we need fs2 3.3 to improve fs2 and to run missions and campaigns made using its features, and we need fred2 3.3 to make missions, mods, and campaigns with those features?

After we install it, then what? It seems to me that we need to create folders for each mod we download and make for the game and then somehow use the 3.3 to access just those mods, or the original game? We need to use command line for that, or can we just change the shortcuts for the icons??

change the shortcut.

you don't "need" some the the FS2 open 3.3 features for mods, unless the campaign uses some advanced features such as fighter flak or new sexps throughout the campaign

OK, that makes sense. Thanks.
