Argh, this is tricky.. it depends on my mood. But here goes nothing.
1: Half-Life (PC). I know it's old but I've played it more than anything else.
2: FreeSpace 2 (PC). Enough said ;)
3: Smash Brothers Melee (GC). My favourite console game, an absolute blast with friends.
4: Battlefield 1942 (PC). As with GTA3, lots of oppertunities for doing whatever the hell you feel like at the time. And with a lot of promising mods in the works it looks like things can only get better.
5: GTA 3 (PC). Huge maps, many cars. Lots of oppertunities for carnage. After years of not playing Carmageddon 2, this was just what I needed.
Unfortunately I've left no space for RTS games - I'm having a phase of not playing them at the moment. But Homeworld and TA would make it in there if I had more slots.
-
1. [Insert C&C Game here (any besides TS) (PC)
2. Perfect Dark/Goldeneye 64 (N64)
3. StarCraft (PC)
4. [Insert X Wing Series game here] (PC)
5. FS2 / ZELDA!! (Zelda was the first game next to mario I ever learned how/played. So uh anything with Zelda stuff in it) (PC/Console)
close runner ups: TA, WCIII, Star Trek Armada (buggy), AOE, JKII (I couldn't even play the full Single player camp.. One fo the missions where you board a Star Destroyer, you have to take an elevator soemwhere.. well my elevator never came. I tried everything) NFL Blitz, Super Smash Brothers (:D) and Mario Kart.
oh yeah, Mario RPG is awesome too.

1. Link To The Past (SNES)
2. Super Mario World (SNES)
3. FS2
4. GoldenEye (N64)
5. Tetris (The original GB version, o' course)
I lost a good three years of my life to GoldenEye's multiplayer, and I remain the undisputed champion to this day... strangely, I never liked Perfect Dark half as much...
[EDIT] Five? Five? Damn you Aldo, damn you... It feels like being asked "right, you can only keep one of your four limbs, which one d'you want?"

It feels like being asked "right, you can only keep one of your four limbs, which one d'you want?"
Immeadiatly reply with "Mr. Happy."
I actually liked Perfect Dark better. Everything was cooler save no james bond or russians. But the bots rocked, especially if all of your friends left because they said you were cheating because they couldn't beat you. :D
LTP was awesome.. I've lost so much of my life to those games. (Did you ever get all of the Heart containers? The most i've got is 19 and 1/4. I could never find a reason why i should go back and get the last 3 :p )
*Remembers being so happy and almost crying when getting Zelda 64*

19 3/4. I spent years searching the length and breadth of Hyrule for the last one, but I just... couldn't... find it...
And as great as Ocarina was, I'd rather play Link To The Past any day of the week. Actually, having siad that, Majora's Mask was... well, breathtaking, really. Weird as hell, but uber-deep and detailed. I loved the feeling of being trapped in a nightmare where you tried your best to save the world, but you'd fail and the three-days would be reset and you'd have to watch all the little guys scurrying around to their doom for the nth time... you feel so sad for them... and the final battle with Majora was :shaking: When you get sucked up in to the Moon, and suddenly all the noise and shaking stops and you're stood in a field with grass and butterflies and those creepy kids playing hide-and-seek... great stuff from Mr Myamoto, though the sheer size of it was somewhat intimidating when I came to replay it... even thought the actual main quest is shorter than Ocarina (in tems of the number of dungeons you have to do), I just felt overwhelmed knowing how huge the world outside Clock Town is (though it's beautiful, and I do like to visit Termina for a bit of sight-seeing occasionally)

1. Half Life
2. FreeSpace
3. GTA3(ps2)
4. GTA Vice City(soon, VERY soon)

-
[EDIT] Five? Five? Damn you Aldo, damn you... It feels like being asked "right, you can only keep one of your four limbs, which one d'you want?"
my thoughts exactly... :p
These are the more recent ones I can think of:
1: Deus Ex
2: Freespace 2
3: Unreal Tournament 2003
4: Mission Critical
5: Battlezone 2
I bet I missed many there...
Has anyone played this really old dos game called Supaplex? (or its mac version, Infotron) I must have spent literally thousands of hours with that game in my earlier years, and I recently found a windows version of it with extra levels and an editor, so I am very happy now. :D
-
Freespace/FS2: Still playing after all these years.
Doom/Doom 2: The first game I ever modded for. It still has a certain 'charm' even though I can go through each level on Nightmare with my eyes closed using only a pistol without taking any damage.
Descent/D2/D3: I played D2 for hours at a time over several summers. From dusk till dawn, literally.
Sim City 2000: That was a great game. More than the original, but without the sluggishness and irritating bugs of SC3K. It also got me into the online community, swapping buildings and cities.
Perfect Dark: No FPS has ever come close to that level of customizing and gameplay, let alone on a console. The character models were horrendous but the rest of the game more than made up for it.
-
Descent 2 was my first game-modding experience, followed by C&C; this is where I first discovered all the neat stuff that could be done with a game. :D
-
Perfect Dark, I think, was one of the saving graces of N64's later years.
The game was plain awesome and I sometimes still play it. And damn the music was great too.
*Goes off too luck for some music*
-
5) Super Smash Brothers (Melee)
4) Half-Life (and mods)
3) Descent Series
2) Final Fantasy 7
1) Zelda 64 (Ocarina of Time)
-
ooh, yay another one of these
(no order)
Final Fantasy X: achieved an (almost) perfect RPG... in terms of story, atmosphere and that sort of stuff. Severely lacked in gameplay/system. Battle engine was nice though
Final Fantasy VIII: I like Rinoa. End of Story. ;7
Final Fantasy VI: overall balance. Perhaps lacking in difficulty.
Romancing Saga 3: puuuuuurfect battle system (well not really.. but close enough)
Freespace 2: need I say anything? ;)
Runnerups:
FF4
Chrono Trigger
Freespace
Iwar2
Sacrifice
-
Not in any kind of order but:
1. Halo
2. GTA3
3. Turrican 2
4. Soul Calibur (roll on SC2)
5. Splinter Cell (I know it's not out yet but I know it's gonna kick my arse)
-
So many games...
1) FreeSpace series
2) Baldur's Gate series
3) Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos
4) Homeworld / Cataclysm
5) Master of Orion 2: Battle at Antares

OK, this is the last time I'm making this speech cos I'm getting bloody sick of it - IT's not about the lines!
Any idiot can sit there whacking away lines. Score is what it's all about! See, every time you clear ten lines the game bumps you up a level. If you start on level 9 like myself, you have to rack up 100 lines before you move up to level ten. However, by the time you reach level 14 or thereabouts, it just become unplayable, so the aim is to get as high as score as possible before you reach the stupidly fast levels. To get those uber-scores, you need to be efficient with your line clearing, since the score for singles, doubles, tripples and a Tetris increases in steps - a four liner (ie a Tetris) is worth ten times as much a single. Thus, by clearing four lines as often as possible, you score big whilst keeping your lines count to a minimum, thus you won't get leveled up for ages, thus you have more time to score before it gets too fast and bricks up.
OK, so you tend to brick up a lot when you line up a pair of Tetris but the game flat refuses to give you a stick to finish them off, but you can get some dirty great scores if you persevere. For the record, my best is 251000 :ha:
And exactly why did you never have GoldenEye?
Shame about Rare, eh, Nintendo fans? Oh well, their loss - they gotta work with the big black and green monstrosity that is the Bill Box. Goes to prove that anyone will betray their principles if enough cash is thrown at them...

How is it betraying their principles? They still continue to develop games which I should think was one of their main principles at least.
Personally I look forward to what the extra money can bring me in Perfect Dark Zero :)

- NOLF 1 & 2 The best spy shooters ever, and funny too!
- Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2 Blew my mind, twice!
- X-Wing Alliance Hooked me on the space sim
- Tachyon It's got Bruce Campbell in it! That's just cool!

Uh, I don't care about post count. Never did. If I cared all that much, I'd have posted twice as much as I did.
Also, the thread my postcount was deleted for was absolutely not spam. It was possibly the most legitimate thread I've posted in a year, and made a point that's evidently unanswerable by you war hawks, at least judging by the reception it got when I franchised it later (I get bored)...

I read the post. That's how I was able to spot the bit about the ROM and single it out for a quote. Do the maths.
As I understand it, all discussion on warez is forbidden at HLP - and that includes ROMS. However, since Thunder hasn't said anything (which is a little :wtf:, I must admit), I'm asking him to pass judjement on this case. If I'm wrong I'll shut up.
-
Shut up anyway. You're not Thunder, you're not in the admin tryouts for the most Taliban-esque humorless adherence to one's own strict misconception for the rules, it's not your job to point out posts for a group of admins equipped with a perfectly functional pair of eyes and a good idea of how they wanna run to forums themselves. It's not your business, and it's just plain irritating. Next time I see it, I start adding names to the **** list, and I haven't had to do that here since someone thought it'd be funny to spam my PM box.

Mmmmm... Tachyon. That tided me well before I-War2. Shame the graphics were so... odd. So many things done right (sound, scale, missions, ship design, nebulae) and then the graphics were... they weren't low res, but you'd think they were... and they weren't grainy, bu t you'd almost think they were... DAMN good game though. Needs a sequel. :D

Tachyon: good but buggy as hell
I don't think they'll be making a sequel, I don't think it sold too well (or did it?)

Was it buggy? I don't recall having any problems with it.
-
I played the Tachyon demo on me DeltaForce 2 CD, and liked it a lot. I was gonna get Tachyon, but I heard that FS2 was better and already out, so I duly went out and got it. Therefore, I have NovaLogic to thank, of all people, for my love affair with FS2 :)
BTW, I tried to play Tachyon quite recently... :ick

I've heard reports of bugginess and such from other people too.
On my comp it'll only run properly half the time, and crash the rest.
It may have been fixed after my win 2k update though. (not sure, haven't played it recently)
But of course, bugginess is quite controversial....
(on the late red faction forums people would always shout at the others "ITS NOT BUGGY, U R AN IDIOT!" and others would say "ITS BUGGY, BOO VOLITION")
-
It worked fine for me, nor do the graphics look bad. (I always liked them, but the nebulas where better in FS). But I also did hear about others not having success with the game. Must just be a combination of game and system being happy with each other (or not.)
