Hey all
Me & my brother just finished our first work on making it so we could pilot a Cain class cruiser. I know people would have done this before, but this is our first go at this.
Tell me. Has anyone been able to make a mod where you can USE beam cannons from capital ships? coz i want to integrate that onto my cain class cruiser & make that the primary weapon. Coz at the moment weve got no primary weapons or secondary weapons. Only thing we got to fight with is our armor, LACK OF SPEED, & about half a dozen auto lazer turrets....

Yup it's done before but it's still cool
there is someone that made beams work whit the use of SEXP's but i can't remember who it was..Do a search on this subject i think you can find alot of info about it.

yup i remember this one.
set up a sexp to watch for a key press.
(in the training menu stuff) Get this event to trigger a firing of your beam cannons.
Another Idea is to make Beam type missiles like the lucifers beam. This means you can lock onto targets then fire seeking beams (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
there was a discussion about this in another topic recently but I can't remember the topic name.

Where will the beam cannons fire? Do you need to give them a target?

I think they would be AI-controlled, meaning they would fire at anything in their firing arc, unless you had targeted something, which takes priority. I think. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

use the tag missiles to control beams or maybe you can put the tag flag into anoterh primary weapon or something then sue the sexps to control firing or a keypress

U can also open the POF and add regular gun points (NON TURRET) and in the TBL add a pair of beams to them.

If you do that then you won't get the beam charge-up.
