Title: SCP - Need someone to run tester list (no coding knowledge needed)
Post by: RandomTiger on November 13, 2002, 07:59:10 am
I am loosing my net access next month and Im not sure when I'll get it back. While Im sure I'll manage to look at the boards from time to time I wont be able to continue my online projects. So I need someone to look after the tester list for me:

What do I need to do this job?
======================

Unstanding of basic html including tables
An ftp program

What will I have to do?
=================

Remove people (edit html) who want off it
Add people (edit html) who want on it
Try and get more people to join up
Change peoples details (edit html) as they upgrade

There are plenty of others things someone could spend time on to this make it better system, the above is the mininum it needs to survive, which is all Im interested in.

What is the tester list anyway?
======================

The tester list is a list of bunch of people who are helping the FS2 source code project by testing exe for us. This helps us to find problems and solve them before we give offical exe's to you guys.

The idea is a programmer looks at the list, which contains details of everyones specs and chooses the ones he wants to test on.

I wont lie, its not a perfect system, the response isnt usually great, send something away to 30 and only get 10 back but usually the 10 you get back is full of good info that really helps.

Until recently I believe Im the only coder whos used it but hopefully that will change. I believe Inquistor is using it for the most recent release.

Testing is very important, even more so on the PC where the number of things that can go wrong is huge. If kept alive this could become a very important resource.

I want to run it!
===========

Give me an e-mail then and some evidence that you wont get bored in a week and forget about it :)

I want to be a tester!

Just for the record it takes hardly any time. You just have to add or remove a bit of html every so often. Not very often at that.

Perhaps someone could automate it, but then it would be open to abuse.

Regardless of how much or little the testers actually do the keeper should not be effected since the coders communicate directly with the testers and they report bugs to our database which is totally seperate.

It really is a small job.

email or PM me to tell me exactly what you need me to do RandomTiger, you have my email address.

right now i'm only doing a mission and intro for LM, a webpage for TVWP, updating the TT website and the FSPORT, and a few missions for Inferno.  i should be able to fit this in pretty well, especially since it's enjoyable
;)
