Title: Mass conversion program?
Post by: Anaz on November 13, 2002, 07:44:13 pm
Ok, I just found a bunch of textures that I liked out of the FS2 vp files, and since they are all in .pcx format, truespace doesn't know what to do with them. I happened to have extracted a BUNCH of texs and I don't want to individually open, convert, and save each file. Sooo...if you happened to have come across one of these that is (legally) free, I would be much appreciated.

And if you do, I'll put the link in my siggy so all will know...

Just do it. Took me 15 minutes to do half of the .vp in Photoshop.

The only two good things about paint shop pro:

1. The browse button
2. The batch convert

You forgot--

3. Bugs the crap out of Photoshop fanboys by providing 90% of the functionality of Photoshop for 20% of the cost.

4. Except that it doesn't have all the cool-ass plugins.:p

'S like comparing TrueSpace and 3DS MAX. In the strictest sense, somebody who doesn't know how to use Truespace can do 90% of what someone who doesn't know how to use MAX can do, for much cheaper.

IrfanView is definitely the application of choice for this sort of work.

CP: Meh, don't really care either way. I'm happy with Photoshop, and if I wanted PSP I'd get that instead.

Download the trial version (http://www.jasc.com/download_4.asp?) of Paint Shop Pro 7. Fully functional for 30 days. Has a decent batch conversion utility.

Either you are running an ancient version, or were dropped as a child.  Get an upgrade; PhotoPaint is fantastically powerful.  I am still learning new stuff it can do all the time.

PSP maps look utter pish compared to Photoshop, the shading effect is nowhere near as good.
