Title: Case Lighting
Post by: diamondgeezer on November 17, 2002, 03:23:54 pm
I'm told cold cathode is the choice of the professional. Thoughts?

Red for preference here - but it largely depends on what your case looks like (as well as its interior)...

Well... the be honest, the poll was an afterthought. I was wondering if anyone could dish out a pearl of technical wisdom or two...

A sort of greenish-purple, apparently. Most people never see it.

blue owns all case light colors...unless you paint your case black and put a few spikes coming off of it...and then put red lights on it....

Well, I personally find all interior case lighting rather useless. It makes the thing looks nice if you open it up, but that's about it; not really worth an extra $50 if you ask me. Out of those colors though, UV is of course the best. :D

lol, that kind of PC lighting would be completely useless, but he's talking about those newer ones that have a side of the case made of glass or something, and lights inside... it actually looks pretty good in the dark, pretty freaky too at the same time (that's probably cause i just finished watching "The Others") i dunno.

Dude, if you really want to see what good lighting can do for you, surf on over to the DBB (http://www.descentbb.net/) and check the Tech forum for posts by "Stresstest".  His "Blue Light Special" will literally make your jaw drop.

That's too funny! Eveyones asleep so I had to cover my mouth and quickly look away!

"RED!" cause it's the color of the blood we shed for the GTVA!

Ah, I see.

Forget lights. Go for a real man's computer decoration- get flame-shooting heatsinks!:D

Honestly, I can't understand how this ever became an issue. Computers aren't SUPPOSED to be ornamental, damn it! They're big, ugly boxes with wires sticking out, which you are supposed to slowly bury in papers so that only the reset button shows!

If you're interested in lighting setups, have a browse (http://pcdb.overclockers.com.au/). I can't really give any technical information since my only mods consist of hacking holes into the case for airflow, although you're on the right track as far as cold cathodes being the outstanding choice. Otherwise your choices would probably include standard neon tubing, EL tape, and LED's *shrug*

Cheers (I think) for the pic, vadar mate... :nervous:

See, Stryke, the way I view me computer is the same as a car - it's all about the hot-rodding. And frankly, since a motor with under-chasis floods looks uber 5w337, I fancy some of the same for me tower, oh yes

Also, I'm fed up with ****ing about with a torch when I'm doing stuff inside it... plus I fancy some of that skin cancer gubbinz I hear UV gives you... mmm, surgery... :)

[EDIT] BTW, if you guys want to try and see what octarine looks like, you just need to shine a beam of light through a prism in an area with a background magic field... octarine should be the eight color produced, though the rods and cones in your eyes won't pick it up - you need to have been born with octahedrons in there, too :)

Still, I would rather spend the money on a game or something; this is not all that cheap either, considering that it does not do anything performance-wise... :p

vadar: that is the ultimate render there. ;7

Well, I've been thinking about doing it for a while and I've decided to do it. I mean come on, its this big ugly beige block of metal taking up my desk space cause putting it on the floor will kill my ferret. So why not spruce it up a bit? Anyway, I'll post up my success or failure when its finnished. :D

Well... yes. Er... I suppose that's something that too few of us take in to account when placing our towers... *ahem*

Or something...

Heheh... I mean that my pet ferret is quite keen on the psu fan, like the one on my playstation 2. He always tries to stick his tongue into it. So doing that to the psu would be suicide. Not to mention all the pritty wires he can play with. :D So I keep it on my desk.

Infra-black. The only color for someone who truly means it.
