Yup, that's it. Another one.
Title: *torn between* Monster in the Deep, Terror in the Tide
Summary: After the discovery of a system beyond Vasuda Prime, the GTVA sends an expeditionary force led by the GTD Arizona *might want new name here. any help would be appreciated*. The vessel arrives in a dense nebula, and a Shivan threat much more deadly than they ever imagined....
Fight another Shivan Lucifer, this one much more deadly than the one that threatened our systems 36 years ago!
Fight for survival in a dense nebula that wreaks havoc with sensors and hides secrets hidden by the GTVA for years...
And more!
So, whaddya think?
-
Terror in the Tide deffinitly, for obvious reasons, especially if you intend to get hostsed here to avoid confusion.
Story sounds.. interesting. Dunno if I like it personally, but its your camp, and if you intend to actually finish it, all the better.
GTD Iris perhaps? I dunno, it sounds cool.
To clarrify, storywise, I don't know if I like another Lucy idea, or another Vasudan Node, but a campaign with a main theatre of battle in a Nebula doesn't sound too bad.
-
Sorry to be a whining bugger in his high horse here, but surely the community dosn't need another fight-the-Shivans-a-new-Lucifer campaign?
Tell you what I'd like to do someday, is a story set much nearer to the present, mebbe a century or so ahead. The technology would be roughly Event Horizon level, and the Earth would have more or less the nations and super-powers it has now. You'd be fighting for control of moons and asteroids and such, and there'd be emphasis on the strategic value of whatever you're attacking/defending, to try and break up the feeling of dogfight after dogfight. The fighters would have no shields and probably ballistic weapons (ie machine guns and rail guns, style o' thing), and maybe some wussy laser (weak compared to a subach, but unlimited ammo, thus presenting a viable alternative to guns). I'd also have missiles work more like modern jet fighters than the millions of weak missiles you get in FS... so you only have perhaps half a dozen, but one hit will heavily damage or more likely kill an enemy.
You'd be fighting on a variety of scales, from minor fighter skirmishes to full-up battles with warships like the Sulaco in Aliens (probably about Fenris sized). No beams, of course. And because radio only travels at the speed o' light, you'd have either your squad leader or a warship issuing the orders (or a planet or moon, if it's an orbital battle), and if they got blown up you'd be in trouble... There'd probably be fairly basic carriers, but mostly you'd be based on a planet or moon or maybe a large asteroid, so perhaps there could be some atmospheric stuff if that gets implemented... providing air cover for ground troops and what have you, S:AAB style...
On thing I'm not sure about is who you'd fight for - if I pick a country, 90% of people not from that country will object. I could have the player as a soldier in the peace keeping force of a faltering UN, trying to keep a grip on the last vestiges of international law and order, like the GDI in Tiberian Sun. Or, you could be mercs or pirates. Maybe several campaigns of varying length could be written, set in the same 'world', perhaps even telling the same stories from different points of view.
Basically, my main infuences game wise would be FS (natch), S:AAB, Tib Sun and Crimson Skies (and 'proper' combat flight sims, of course).
Actually... thinking about it, I just described pretty much what a S:AAB TC would be like, only limited to the Sol system... oh screw it, I still say I've got a good outline there
-
Sounds like a good beginning. Now write some script and keep the goodies SECRET! That's the hardest part... I wanna bust open, but oh well ;)
DG , that sounds awesome! Sounds like the Unification war... HEY Maybe do that for SAAB before the chig encounters, like The AI Wars!!! ?

I love it when a plan comes together...
Problems with me making said campaign:
I can't model
Judging from the S:AAB thread, no one else wants a modeling job
I've pretty much finished a five mission shortie, and it took me a year to do and drove me nuts getting the testing and balancing done
I'm (fingers crossed) joining the air force next spring, so I doubt I'd be able to work on FS2... :(
[EDIT] Oh, and I can't get to grips with HTML or FTPing, so I couldn't even make me own website[/list]
-
diamond, you just gave me an idea. If I wasn't already working on a campaign (albeit one where most of my staff has vanished...grrr) I'd start something.
Hell, interested in hashing out my idea with me?

I know the feeling. If it was any campaign but Reci, I'd bail. But Aldo's stuff is just too cool to give up (those Nightmares are the cat's whiskers, let me tell you)
Hell, interested in hashing out my idea with me?
Hit me.

I shall ICQ you sir.
-
No you shan't. My ICQ number is a fake, plain and simple. MSN me using diamond_geezer_hotmail.com
-
Okay
-
Heh, I knew I was using this ghastly Microsoft gubbinz for a reason...
[Smeagol] Nasssty Microsft... it hurts us, precious... wicked tricksy Bill Gates, gollum, gollum... [/Smeagol]

:wtf:
I noticed that a while ago, it has one too many numbers and is quite annoying. What purpose does it serve other than detouring those who'd like to speak with you again?
-
Okay, added ya diamond.
I think....

Er... I think you just summed it up...
And nothing at my end yet, HeX mate...
-
Uh-oh. Hmmm...
[email protected] right?

yea that makes a lot of sense... :doubt:

Not quite - try [email protected]
And KT - what?
-
never mind.
Do you happen to have a real #? I don't really like MSN or Yahoo or whatever.
-
DG, that is a good idea...and I would be happy to help, as I can model, and I am beginning to get a grip on texturing...but alas, I have no source code skillz....but it would be fun...e-mail me whatever you end up with @ [email protected]
thx...

Your loss. I tried ICQ once, but it took over my system and had to be removed with a crowbar. Perhaps I can try to get Trillian working again...
PS sorry about hijacking your thread, nuclear...
-
:wtf: to the big font..
ever try ICQ Lite?

You, sir, are trying to confuse me.
I shall give ICQ Lite a try, if I must... standby...
[EDIt] See? Even the ICQ download page had pop-up and "do you want to set your homepage to Insert Generic Adserver.com?". Bah... you realise I'm only doing this cos I'm a big softy at heart, KT

For that modern campaign idea, you can use the Unification War stuff as a base, the Unification War takes place in 2317, so it isn't as far ahead, and you are already started a little back. I would gladly help out as I was going to do this alsol but my team wouldn't have it.:D
-
Well, if this ever comes to anything I'll certainly investigate the UW stuff. Cheers Hades mate.
[EDIT] OK, I'm ICQed up. Number is 1775543063
-
Well I'm glad to see one topic is not off topic.....oh wait....DAMN!
-
Keeping OTness in mind, the number didn't work when searched..
oh yeah, what do you guys think of the camp?
-
For the record, unlike DG, I like the general idea; implementation might be tough but if you can pull it off, go for it. I would suggest remodeling the Lucifer a bit, change up its hull enough so that it looks like like a more advanced derivitive (sp?) of the original. Other than that, COOL!

Oh yes, my bad. Too many sevens, Mr Mozart. Try 175543063
And as for nuclear's idea, I just feel it lacks enough of a gimmick. Are you sure that setting the entire thing in a nebula would be a good idea? Or would it take the edge off the 'wow' factor the nebula inspires? At he end of the day, what would it have that really makes it stand out from all the other half-finished projects out there?

What you fail to see is that nebulas if used properly can deeper involve players. Not all ideas have to be off-the-wall original in order to be good, what he's proposing has been attempted before but I have yet to see it well done; Derelict comes close but the mass of errors and bugs in that campaign detract from the overall quality.
Don't shunt the ideas of others so quickly; give helpful advice or shut your trap.

Fair enough. It's your opinion vs mine. Who's is right?

Again, it's a free world.

Oh deary me... I spies *****ing, and we're only on the second page... look, the dude asked for opinions and I gave mine. Just because it probably wasn't what he wanted to hear doesn't mean you get to shout at me. Same goes for advice - in this case my advice is to throw some more twists in to the pot...
Narol mate, you really need to learn to relax. You get in to this routine far too often.
-
Fair enough, your opinions are yours and no one can argue otherwise, but "it sucks, get lost" isnt constructive criticsm.
-
OK... so how about "I think it needs a little something more to really make sure it gets noticed"? Is that a fair comment?
-

Heavy character development--You can expect to see and hear characters like the Marines from Aliens, a specific Vice Admiral for the vessel, and several others.
Not all of its going to be in the nebula. A good deal of the final missions will be in open space, so you won't be in the nebula for the entire campaign.
If possible, the ********* will scare the heckells out of you (no, aldo, NOT your Nightmares :D ). I hope that if done properly with the right effects and the right messages, I could create a nice lil' scary atmosphere.
-
Persistent characters and heavily atmospheric missions? Now we're talking the same language, my pedigree chum... That's exactly the sort of thing I aim for when I'm writing. Stick to those ideals and you'll be on the right track, says I.
How was that, Narol?

The little spec I wrote up a few months ago for a very far future project...bascially a whole freeware game only using the FS engine and not_much_else. Although I never intended in even starting it until late next year.
