Title: Problem: Modelveiw
Post by: Knight Templar on November 22, 2002, 07:05:26 pm
Modelveiw trouble:

I can't get some of my ships to load in modelveiw. Notably, the Raynor and the Warlock, and most of Aldo's nightmares.

I have all the textures and junk in the right spots, but when I open them, I get a No Model Found message.

Solutions?

Do you mean it is saying "No Model Loaded" in the view window? If so, sounds like your pof files are totally screwed up. Check to see if they open in anything else and have file sizes over 0.

I tried with the Raynor.. 800 Kb.

Open it in anything else? Like what? I tried uh.. notepad and I got a bunch of Code if that means anything to you.

Try them in a debug POFView. It ought to give you an error message saying what the problem with the model is. Otherwise, try re-converting them or get a good copy from someone else 'cause those files are screwed up.

If you have more that 180 subobjects (total) it can happen.

err.. on the raynor? If it works for you, it should work for me.. theoretically.

If this sounds stupid cause I DID THIS... When you set up model wiew it's pointing to the right directory (main fs2, not data)

If you have the pof and the textures inthe same folder it opens them.. When I put them where they were suppose to go (maps and models) it couldn't open them until I fixed the dir..

It's possible that the model files are damaged and you may need new copies. (Have you run scandisk lately?) Crashes of various kinds can, sometimes, damage files. (One I've had some experience with being crosslinked files, where 2 files are sharing the same part of the drive.)

If you have copies in a Zip file, or other archive file, try replacing your current copies with them or try re-downloading them.

I'm having the same problem. Not only with the Raynor, but with a bunch of Aldo's stuff too. I've tried to re-download several times.

Can you archive anything? I was lucky cause I had to wipe my drive and had an old backup of my 'all-mod' at least I only had to redo 2/3 of the cutting and pasting (2 weeks work) ...

Hm. I think that there are some textures missing for instance for Aldos Claymore Mk 2. But here is what I do. I extract all models and maps into one same folder and I also include FS2 maps just in case. Then I open them in Modelviewer and ta-da. I really don't have any problems.

For whatever reason, I find that ModelView won't load models properly unless it's installed to C:\DMTOOLS\MODVIW32. Put it anywhere else, and it won't work right 100% of the time. Tres bizzare...

Anyways, all of Aldo's stuff that I have works A-1 Supar, and if I can make it work then you lot certainly can

Hey KT, check and see what version of MODELVIEW you have. If you don't have the latest, get it. It solved all of my problems.

Make sure you are connected to the 'net, which if your reading this, you must be.

Open MODELVIEW and go to the help menu>check for new version. It will then show you what version you have installed and give you options in a pop-up menu.

Latest version is 1.0 Beta 04b Build 26. If you don't have that, push the "check now" button and it'll find the latest version for you and give you options on where and how to D/L it.

Choose an option, close MODELVIEW, D/L new version .exe and run. Reopen MODELVIEW.

Many models do not load in ModelView anymore because the limits are set too low (or were building models with limits that are too high....either way :D).  HH WAS building a improved version with higher limits...and I did test an Alpha version...but I never heard a word after that.  I haven't even heard from HH at all.

No doubt of that since you are a staff member, but I can't get Aldo's models to run. I am sure that there are some maps missing for the public downloads. I noticed that on the Claymore Mk2 fighter and some other ships, but I can't remember their names.

I've never heard of that before.... what models?  And the CM2 was in the VP file for (old) Reci, so I know that should work.  Unless you mean with modelview, which doesn't seem to be able to find the textures in the VP properly, tho they are there.

That's right.
Anyway I will try my old strategy on extracting all models and textures in a folder. It works with Inferno well, but I didn't try it with RCPT.

Actually if you have VP View V2.0 Beta 05 and you open a VP file, you can go to "tools-browse the models in this VP using Modelview"
It will load all the models with the maps inside that VP file.

All of Aldos stuff works anyway and thats the public versions, well they work for me :)

You can also just open a VP file in ModelView and skip using VPView.

Hopefully we'll get a new ModelView version soon, what with Heiko Herrmann doing an update (and source code release ;7)...
