Were any messages lost? If all he did was closed the board (which can be reopened), I guess it is not such a big deal.

In my knowledge hacker and cracker is basically the same, but cracker does harmful things while hacker comes and leaves but does not do anything really harmful.

Yes, I noticed the message about protect0rz but VWBB is running again.

Crackerz create keygens. They're kinda half-hacker, half-cracker. They do it because it is illegal and they like to screw over big companies, and believe in freedom of information, but aren't evil enough to go crashing corporate websites.

Hackers hack stuff. They find holes, see what they can do and then (in theory) either report the hole to the sys-admin or take a look around and leave.

Crackers crash stuff. They hack into a computer/site then delete stuff and generally wreak havok.

Human viruses. He sounds unpro, he'll probably leave a trail a mile wide, and his IP with it.:D

Depends wether he thought to wipe the admin logs and his user account when he left.

But bear in mind that he'll be getting the IP of everyone who visits the boards from the Who's Online.

I agree with you 100%

If everyone in the world was the same way, there would be so much to gain.

Yeah.. the guy was a really crappy hacker and got to us through a vulnerability in the vBulletin code, which we have now fixed anyway. It was probably just some script kiddie. I was instantly able to go in through the databases and lock him out of our system. Basically he had sniffed one of the admin's passwords, then logged in, closed the boards, and changed the rest of the admins passwords. Should be all fixed now and it won't happen again.
