Title: DirectX Beta 9
Post by: diamondgeezer on November 25, 2002, 07:04:40 am
Is installing the beta version of DirectX 9 a good idea, do we think?

If it's what I think it is then you can't uninstall afterwards... and therefore no, on the offchance or goes horribly wrong.

Personally I find DX 8.1 runs fine and stable.

Beta = evil = glitches = crashes = BSOD

It may have bugs and theres no games around that will make use of its extra features so I'd just wait if I were you.

its pointless installing DX9 when no hardware drivers support it.

the only thing you'll be doing is providing the chance for the abstraction layer to screw up :p

wait until its officially released and things requiring it

Don't get it unless you have Radeon 9700. With that you can only check the demos if you have DX9 and drivers for it. :p

two words: System Restore

that little tool has saved my ass since the day (and including the day) that i got my computer. I always do a save before i do something stupid.

(I had got what at the time was a really good vid card with it, so i jacked up the screen refresh rate... apperently my monitor couldn't handle it... safe mode + system restore was the only way I could find a way out of that little problem, since my monitor was making a weird buzzing sound and displayed this red error message over a black screen "TURN MONITOR OFF NOW")

:: Disables the memory hog that is system restore by default ::

Uses Goback...  It is a lot of good.  Cleans the classic Windows "Oh ****s."
