This is the last render I got out before 3dmax went unstable again.
Most I've been playing around with some new render effects to get nebula-like stellar "anomolies" (sp?)
What do you all think so far?
-
argh that a crime you've made the sovy ugly and bulky
other than that not bad =) can i bow your cloud map for earth miens abit dogy at best taht ones look alot better
-
Ummm that's not a Sovy ;) It's an concept model of the Excalibur class.
As for the cloud map.... www.theforce.net/scifi3d
Just down load Endor, Naboo, or Dagobah,...those are the three with atmosphere and cloud layers. Each is three spheres to get the correct effect.
-
cool thanks man my cloud layer for my earth model(also three sphere's) is ****ty
and i know its not a sovy - but its clearly based on one and i dont like it the sov is a sleek sporty powerful looking ship this one looks well bulky - replace the ship witha sov =) that s acool ship =)

heh ,....I'm trying to get out of the 'norm' a bit....nearly everyone that renders a Trek shot does Sovies right and left.
This one is actually a "V3" of the Excal design...though I've yet to see a V2 lol The first and common versions I've seen have the hull nearly completely linear with no portion of the ship going higher or lower than the main saucer section.....which to me is part of the "trek" look to the designs ,... since day 1 of TOS Trek the main hull at least had PART of it below the fore sections.
In a few I'll slap up some profile shots just so you can see the ship itself from a better angle ;)

another view of the excal

Nice Green Warp Nacelles... Transwarp maybe?
Love the class name, although the current Excalibur is Galaxy Class... (ST:NF)
Sorry... I love reading about Mackenzie Calhoun. ;)
-
Suppossedly it's transwarp/slipstream :)
Gotta love non-cannon designs eh ?

You want non-canon? Have you seen the Karthago?

You reminded me of it when you said "non-canon ships".

Course your first two thoughts were correct on that thing :D
-
Looks more like a liner or ambassadorial ship than a Federation Starship.
-
That thing is...BIG

Sun I was working on
(http://www.swrpgnetwork.com/mfcrpg/core/ArtGallery/Sun.jpg)
Completely done in 3dmax
-
I'd like to see that in a scene. It looks pretty decent by itself, but the real measure of its worth will come when it has to work with the other objects in your 3d space.

The tough part is that the sun isn't a light...it's just an object with a few effects worked into it.
The only post work in this pic is adding an Axion Lens flare over the sun.
-
And something else I was working on while my GF had the net
(http://www.swrpgnetwork.com/mfcrpg/core/ArtGallery/neb.jpg)
-
In the scene, the sun looks good, if a little active.... Almost looks like the Excalibur is flying towards a planet with a sun that's about to go nova or something...

I was trying for a slightly different look than the "every day looks like Sol-type ofSun" :D
And the ship ... actually it's a Dawnstar class ,.. kinna like a galaxy ,...the Excal is alot more polys and my system's been acting up so that ship wasn't working too well ....so I ditched for a lower count ship :D

Yeah, I have to agree, now that Starfury said it. With it in scene, it looks like the starfleet ship is heading toward Capella... ;)

make the sun a little transparent cus i cant see the stars next to it :D
-
Honestly you shouldn't be able to make out stars next to it. The light from the stars gets washed out by the light of the sun.

actually it the fact that suns gravity actually makes light bend so you should see the stars that are behind the sun too :D
-
1: I think you're thinking of a blackhole ,...I could be wrong but i've never heard of a sun bending light.
2: To be technical...a Sun would be too bright to make out the stars behind it :p

1. Stars do it too.
2. Indeed. Neither can you see the ones "near it".
Edit: Oh, and I like those renders.
