Hey everyone...
University is great; hence I am hardly here anymore. I also, unfortuately have a mountain of essays that occupies my daytime, and so I have little time for this kind of stuff these days. :o
Anyway, I wanted to have a little rant. So you can guess where I thought of coming first. ;)
Basically, I've just been to a gig where I've seen a band that I've wanted to see for quite some time now. The band is called Spoon (and if you've heard of them, I salute you for being in a minority). Since their records are hardly available here, I decided to buy one. Which I put down, to go get a drink.
Which then got nicked.
What's the freakin' world coming to, man? Admittedly, I was stupid and naive but I kinda had more faith in the type of people who go to these kind of shows - and people in general. Well, I guess it was misplaced. :( My faith in human nature shattered (and myself one step closer to being a cynical, embittered conservative[/i]), I shall retreat to bed.
Except to say one thing. Is it better to have faith in human beings and get screwed once in a while, or to not and be totally cynical?

That's a hard story man, sorry to hear it :(
However, I think a healthy dose of both is needed for balance, it's better to be an optimist, you'll get on better and be generally more positive as a result. But don't be a blind optimist, be prepared to open your eyes and reaslise some stuff really is going to happen and yes it sucks but thats life.

do a middle of the road thing. put some trust in them, but never hope for much
-
I have been insulated from the bitter realities of life by all the fantastic people at Uni, but I'm not entirely retarded, so I'll trust my instincts a little more now. :)
-
Cynicism is always better. That way you'll be the one "nicking" the CD from the foolish optimistics next time.
;) :D

I feel too much empathy.

Bah.
You have a long way to go, but you can learn. :D

Why do I get the feeling that if I didn't already know what you looked like, I'd imagine you as Darth Vader? :p

In retrospect, it's not like someone amputated my arm whilst I wasn't looking; I only lost £10 through a moment of naivete. :blah:

By "nicked" do you mean stolen? Did you get a look at the guy who took it?

The latter of course; learn from me. ;7

Nooo! Don't encourage them!

Perhaps you should run for Conservative party Leadership when IDS. gets thrown out :D

IDS should stay in as long as possible. As much as the gov now is a complete pile of ****wits, the Tories are undoubtedly one bajagazillion times worse :)

Liberals are the cause of all this. If stealing got you 50 whips, people wouldnt steal!, if dropping litter got you 20 lashes, people wouldnt drop litter.
Still, people that go to those types of shows are from all walks of life, thieves can be anyone really, from any background.
One thing, Labour might not be the best, but its they are a million times better than all the opposition. Liberal democracts would probably ban cars and the Tories would just make a mess.

Why don't you take a trip to Saudi Arabia if you want proof that that doesn't work, a right wing bigot such as yourself would feel quite at home there, there's still ample a lot more government brutality which is far worse. If everyone had an equal share of wealth there would be a lot less stealing Period

It's certainly a good idea to be a cynical, embittered radical nut though, like me. Trust nobody - the world is your enemy - , support communism just for its cohesive non-individualistic properties, uphold that all the common "human values" are just as meaningless as the religions, and of course, do math all day. ;7 :D

 You are completely right there; make the punishments ten times harsher, and crime will immediately drop to nil. I cannot understand why this has not been done already.
