I know there are a bunch of old threads, but I felt a new one was justified, since the old ones are too old to resurrect.
Anyway, out of pure random curiosity and boredom, I want to know what kind of music people generally prefer, and which band in particular is your favorite.
I prefer rock that involves actual singing (not rhythmic shouting into the microphone).
My personal favorite band is Don't Look Down (http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/165/dontlookdown.html), a pop-punk band (leaning towards punk) from the Philly area. Believe me, they're quite good, and fairly original too. Check out the link and listen to some of the tracks if you don't believe me.

Razor, as much as I enjoy taking the piss out of you at every oppertunity, in this case you have impressed me no end. My music appreciation hat goes off to you. Well done, sir
And just so we all know:

I like what's called 'classical' music, except opera. I also like listening to Enya.
-
Linkin Park, KoRn & Puddle of Mudd
Don't get me wrong, I like the music not the bands.
-
I like orchestral music. Can't really be classified as "classical" music because I don't specifically listen to older music from the Baroque, Rennaisance etc. period. I listen mostly to modern orchestra music, particularly movie soundtracks.
I can't stand pop, rock, rap etc. :ick

I could sign this myself :)

i like the corrs and such, the calmer kind of pop. i also like jazz and blues a lot. i just HATE trance and techno and such (and every kind of music if the volumes to high).
and BTW can someone explain why, at party`s, they always put he music so hard you can't hear eachother?
-
My tastes have become somewhat eclectic. When I was little I used to like pop music but these days pop is definitely ****e. I guess I listen to Rock more than anything else with bands like Within Temptation and Tool coming firm favourites. Gorrilaz, Incubus and Mr Scruff are also listened to a lot these days. I do like a spot of classical though, but it depends on my mood.
-
thanks to my verymusicalvioloncelloplayer dad, I have a very big scale of music I like.
Classical music
Mideval music
Jazz, Soul, Blues, etc.
rap, metal, and about everything else that involves a lot of overdrive guitar, :p .
Mike Oldfield. *runs*
-
I too like many different kind of music... allmost everything goes as long as it sounds good enough.
But my favourite band is Nightwish (http://www.nightwish.com) :)
-
WAGNER!
Anyway, the more powerful side of classical stuff, like Ride of the Valkyries.
Or Jazz, erm stuff like Brazil.
I don't really like any types of music, just individual pieces.
Oh, Hell March, form Red Alert.
-
Indie... mostly late 90's stuff - I've been a bit dissappointed by a few of the more recent albums.
Charlatans, Travis, Seahorses, The Verve, Supergrass, U2, etc are the type of bands I buy...

I can listen to about anything save for rap, raggae, techno and stuff like that. Favourite as to be symphonic metal ( Angra for exemple )

A rousing courus of Billy Boy on the Northumbrian small pipe does much to envigorate the spirit at a dark time.

Nightwish, Rhapsody and Ayreon. :D Love that stuff. Great for programming and 3d work.
-
Hmmm.... I'll have to say it depends on mood...
When I'm working I play classical music
Other than that I play lots of different kinds (jazz, pop, rock, classical, wierd etc.) but one of the music group/bands that I like particularly is Rumania Montevideo :D

Because at those sorts of parties, the average IQ of the attendees is not conducive to stimulating conversation, especially when they're drunk.

A truly great piece of music, that was. #1 on my list of game soundtracks, to be sure.
I listen to, lets see... *goes and opens Winamp* In no particular order, and not exhaustively listed:
U2 (the greatest band ever), Crash Test Dummies, Plumb, Dave Matthews, REM, Spirit of the West (Scots from Alberta!), The Tragically Hip, Ambient Theology, The Cranberries, wide ranging orchastral pieces, masses of ambient and industrial electronic downloads from mp3.com, and more...
-
Both Hell March's and the End Credits from Perfect Dark are the best video game music hands down.
-
KoRn
Metallica
Linkin Park
Black Sabbath
Tool
System of a Down
LimpBizkit
Creed
Skold
Stained
and Mud Vayne

The mission I primarily listen to at them moment is metal and heavy rock, Metallica, Stained, Tool, System of a Down, etc. But my favourite type of music is unquestionably jazz - the old stuff, from the 20s on - the kind of stuff that could be made up on the spot and never played again. Those guys were true musicians :D.
