Which one do you like?
My vote goes to UT and especially to UT 2003. You can play Quake about two weeks, then you get bored...I hate those who say Quake 3 is better...I hate PC Gamer... :D

Sweeeeet!
and UT 2003 menu music is...unreal... :p
-
Well, UT2003 (haven't played too much) might be better than Quake 3, but I don't like original UT too much, though used to like it, too.

Quake 3 is better.

Where's the "First Person Shooters are for lackwit imbeciles who thing pro-wrestling is real" option?

Well, people are not taking them seriously (at least I'm not). Just when you have nothing to do...and again i remind you that UT 2003 has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard.

Hey, you're talking to someone about to play a few rounds of Black Hawk Down whilst wearing a Rock "Just Bring It" t-shirt, ya know...

I dont have Unreal Tournament. But i like what i see in the commercials and reviews.
I Have Quake 3, and i still like it, sometimes i play the game in nightmare and all the bots that i can fill in the game, in skirmish mode. "funny" jeje

and with UT 2003 it's even more fun! :D

my usefulness drops off at godlike :blah:

UT2k3 is awesome if your computer doesn't suck, like mine. I didn't like the demo, but the full version is quite good.
-
Likewise, I thought the demo was "ok" but the full version was so much better, installed it shortly before my latest LAN trip and loved every minute of the entire day we spent playing it. The game feels so much more "real" than the original UT. I know it's all futuristic and such but it just has a polished feel that Q3 had, and now UT2003 has as well.
However, if I want vanilla deathmatch where the fastest finger off the button wins, I'll still look to Q3. If I want teamplay, I'm going with UT2003 (we had some incredible moments during the bombing run missions, true quality in a match where everything felt right. It was beautiful and once it was over everyone just sat back for a minute and grinned - we all knew we'd pulled together to win it).
Moments like them - they're what make games for me now.
-
Q3A looked nicer, but UT has soooo much better gameplay.

UT2003 is so much better then q3a... making q3a entirly useless... except its engine was used pretty good with JKII. But theres no challange with a direct competition... even PCGamer agrees... do i even need to say it?
and since when does uT say "Holy ****"?
-
neither Quake3 or UT.
battlefield 1942 all the way. or renegade, coz the c&c mode is so cool.

You really can't compare Quake 3 and UT2003. 3 years seperate these two titles, with UT2003 looking so much better, and taking advantage of all the things people wanted in both Quake 3, and UT.
Between Q3A and UT, i've never played UT, but i would like it about the same. I do have Q3A, and hope to get UT soon, as my computer will have a heart attack if it tries to run UT2003...
-
UT and Q3 came out roughly the same time, they are always compared, just like Starcraft and TA and C&C, or Doom & Hexen & Quake.
Now UT2003, its almost the same gameplay as UT (except no assault... those bastards), so just because the graphic engine is a little better, dosn't mean it interfers in the comparison. Q3 had superior graphics over UT, now UT2003 dominates Q3 in that arena too. Looks like that B.F.G wont be so useful anymore, will it Johnny (http://www.idsoftware.com)?
-
I have been a die-hard Unreal fanatic since the first game came out, so UT series for me of course.
-
As an aside, Epic are looking to provide the same after-publisher support they did for UT. That means free bonus packs including new maps and models. There's also specualtion that the much loved assault mode (removed from UT2K3 but present in UT) will make a comeback. Anything that encourages online teamwork is ok in my book.
vadar_1, whilst PhReAk is right about that part, there's one other place it says it. If you go to the details menu (graphical) and turn everything to full, you'll hear it said - and with good reason. The game does need a good computer.
-
Yay, Unreal wins! :D

Stunaep - Those levels you quoted are only in 2003, the original UT goes up to Monster Kill... and I think it missed out Mega Kill along the way.
Ten of Twelve - to be fair, UT and UT2003 are separate games... it's not entirely fair to judge ;)

Well, that explains, why Monster Kill is the highest I ever got. :D

ytes, but they still are both better than Q3Arena.

Yes they are separate games but...UT 2003 sure sometimes feels just like UT with better graphix. Oh c'mon, it's a nonsensical shooter, it's not that different.
-
I know I know, but you could get people (like me) who felt Q3 was better than UT. But UT2003 is better than Q3. So in the end I voted for UT.
-
But that's like comparing Duke Nukem to Doom. It's unfair!
...Although Duke Nukem would kick Doom's ass even with worse graphics.
-
Doom 3... 'NUFF SAID.

oh and my vote goes for UT2003 (for now although i can hardly play the game, but i like it cause when i max out the games settings on a 400mhz system, it goes->HOLY ****!!!!)
-
Ah, I remember that flying red sphere guy! :D
If they add in that mutated pig dude I might get the game just for that; that fellow had me laughing so hard the first time I saw him and his behavior... :D :D
-
hmmmm, the shotgun and cacodemon shots are fakes ;). doom3 seems that it will suck in mplayer, only 4 player deatchmatch available.
-
They said themselves that it wasn't a multiplayer game really. In this case, I'm not complaining.
-
The Cyberdemon one's pretty obviously fake, too, in fact more so than the other one- you can't get that look without a raytracer, and it's not a desirable one at any rate. Fact, I can name the prog it was done in- those cheap flame effects are all too familiar...:D
-
Besides - the HUDs of both shots are entirely different from the HUD featured in the leaked Alpha...
-
u got screenies of the alpha?
i thought the same thing though cause of the 3 diff types of huds and etc., but i was so hype on the graphics lol.... so those are all just some lightwave-ish creations..... oh well... UT2003 ownz.... lol. FOR NOW.

Yeah, until they release Unreal Tournament 2005 or something... :p
-
On a closer examination, those screenshots do indeed look like they were taken from JDoom or something like that and had some clever editing done on them.
-
UT is mutch better... Quake is nothing that special, and boring!

Now that's what I'm talkin' about :p

Let me play the "it's what you're looking for in a game" card. Q3 is out and out rapid deathmatch. Finger on the button stuff - UT2003 is also moving towards that way of working, but better retains its sense of teamwork, Q3 lacked this where UT had it in spades. If you want to feel good about yourself and like fast play, Q3 is your game. If you want to be a part of a team and use a stratagy to win the day, UT and UT2003 are far more likely to serve your purposes.
[/self titled guru]
-
You guys ever played Quake Tenebrae? Makes the graphix :eek2:
-
Well when they make a counter strike on the ut engine (which they did mind you and it looked like BS), OR on quake 3, the only true team based game ive played beside the few squad matches in FS2, is Counter Strike. even when i use to teach game development classes for a comunity center, we use to have 10 vs 10 games, and hell, even one of the instructers above me was a Marine, and he said anyone runnin and gunnin gonna get sprayed by him lol... now funny thing is u kill a team mate u get booted or loose a turn... but i really think CS owns team based games. the UT2003 team system is good admitily, but on my lil ol 400 system... what can i do lol... i need that p4 ghz.... (lemme see 400+1.0 ghz.... equals.... 1.4.... means faster ut2003 play... ;7 )
-
I personally think the best team game out there is Tribes 2; CTF in that is almost perfect. The reason I like the UT games better overall though is that Tribes 2 has no real singleplayer.
-
I tried real hard to like Tribes 2, but it just doesn't do anything for me. The game was the first I can remember with vehicles and so on, and whilst they looked good they felt terrible to play with. The rest of it just seemed empty and bland...

Unreal Tournament has no singleplayer either. :D

I just got a 'Holy ****!' in Q3A. I fragged the enemy flag carrier when he was six inches away from his flag, with one rocket.

Kind of funny actually, i've had Q3A for a couple years now, and only 2 weeks ago did i actually hear that "Holy ****!" thing. SCared the hell out of me at first.
Tribes 2 is ok, but only if you have a computer that can actually think. Sadly, mine is just slightly too stupid for it.

I dunno. In the brief time I needed UT (not played, NEEDED) it had a great single player element.
See first you start a last man standing death match with a HUGE number of bots. then you name them after the morons you work for. then get in there and proceed to work out some workplace aggression. :D Its amazing how much stress you can work off like that.

try worms2, much better for retributive fun :P
