+Arcadia, Deimos and Orion.
It may be old news, but I thought it needed pointing out.
http://w3.enternet.hu/fscult/Capshipservice.htm
And thus begins my posting career in HLP.
Hello everybody (and say thanks to Grunt, for all the hard work)
-
Thank God for that. Docking has always caused me to have nightmares afer extended FREDding sessions. Cheers for the link, Keravnos, and welcome to HLP (someone will be a long shortly to shoot you with an LGreen...)
-
NOw I have to decide if I want cap ships with docking ability (and not just simulate it) or to be shielded (I can't have both?)

You're welcome. :)
And again:
:D :D :D Welcome You to Paradise GT-Kernavos !!! :D :D :D
Capship Service is really an old service on FSCult.
I used to have a link in my siggy to point there, but I removed it cos I thought that it was no longer a problem for ppl on HLP.
There are a lot of profficient POF gurus around.
But it may help for new members, so I've put it back now.
Enjoy ! :)
And I'm ready to include other ships if anyone cares.

????
You CAN have both.
At least my GTCr Trifid model is shielded and has docking bays as well.
It works.

Got Beam?
-
That's the wussy SWelcomeBeam. GT-Keravnos' first post was something very useful, and that's all he gets? This guy need the proper HLP welcome, including the offical walkthrough spiel...
*Fire control, target GT-Keravnos. Warm up the Welcome beam... and... FIRE!*

Exits are located to either side and at the rear, flamethowers are beneath your seat in case of emergency (or if you just really, really want to ;7), and if you encounter any Shivans while crawling through the ductwork, it's probably just Carl. Give him your lunch and back slowly away, and you'll be fine.

hey.... that's my line....

I'm surprised, you didn't actually fix the Iceni's docking info. ;)(Which was the worst I've seen but has been done recently anyways.)

All original capships have the same problem I suppose.
I've only done those that someone asked, or that I used in custom missions.
Never tried the Iceni to be honest. :o
:)

Don't know about all the ships, but the Iceni's path/dock port data was really screwy. On one side the dockport normals were actually pointing inwards! And the path for that dockpoint was way off in the middle of nowhere. (Look at it in FRED2 some time, but make sure you zoom out quite a bit.) Someone goofed when they made that model, but as that docking port was never used, nobody noticed or cared till recently. :)

Yep !
I've seen the same on the Deimos I guess.
Definitely V run short of time and they just did not fiddle with dock data that they were not gonna use.
I first run into this when the Sathanas crashed the game. Then I read a thread on VBB (maybe from Top Gun ?) about similar problems.
So I started to look into it and to upload fixed models. Most of them were asked by someone.
-
BTW I've just added the GTC Aeolus to the list inspired by a thread on the FS Modding forum.
Download:

The docking path starts about 400 m above the ship, so dockers should start above this point. :)
-
Take me to your leader (always wanted to say that) and let everyone who can't dock well with a model report it here so that it shall be fixed
BtW, I hope you guys can answer some, cause while I am beginning messing around with FS2, some questions will definitely pop out.
:D

See wht I mean is that all my .pofs in the test folder are replaced by the "Shielded Capship packs" (Terran/vasudan/shivan) they replace your existing .pofs. If I use the capships service dosen't that file replace the existing one and the changes to the .pof are lost so teh new .pof with adjusted docking ability takes its place??? (just like with textures and whatnot)...

Ooops ! I see your problem now.
You can only have one MODded version of each ship in use at a time.
One way to solve this is to combine the two models,
which can be done by:
Cutting the shield data from the shielded model with a HEXeditor and copying it to the "docking" model (surely works).
Only do this if you're experienced in HEX editing.
The other way is to learn how to modify Dock data with PCS.
Not too difficult. :)

Especially since you can just open two versions of PCS and copy from one pof to the other (You might be able to use the import data function depending on your version of PCS)

There is a much easier way that ought to work. Load the model with fixed docking info and import the shield data from the shielded version. Both PCS and ModelView32 support importing shield data. (Though I've never used PCS's.)

Yes !
Sometimes I forget that hexediting POFs is kind of "old fashioned" thing to do. :D
