Title: anyone good with sounds?

I want to make some sound stuff for a new ship / weapon... sort of a screaming/wailing-type sound.

Hard to explain (and the necessity of secrecy prevents me from giving the actual use), but if anyone has 'Urban Hymns' by The Verve (excellent album), go to the secret track (13 mins into 'Come On', and you'll be able to hear the smapled bit I want to play around with.... unfortunately I don't really have any sound editing programs.
