Title: Couple questions
Post by: Black_Knight on December 06, 2002, 11:48:34 am
Just was wondering, since the source code is out, is it possible, or even in the works from the mod community to:
-make a simplified mission editor (drop down menu of scripts for selected ships/groups, etc)
-make cap ships fire torpedos

I had another question, but I forgot it.  :(

Oi - I hate being the new guy...

Flamethrowers are under the seats, plasma rifles in the lockers to the front, emergency exits to either side. Your seat cushion can be used as a floatation device in case of emergency.

Torpedo launching is a model issue. If you make a huge turret and a huge torpedo weapon POF, it's possible. As far as scripts in FRED go, you might be better off copy-pasting in Notepad.

Speaking of which... can we have a copy-paste function for ships and SEXPs? I.E. I have nine cargo containers in formation. I copy them, then paste them. The old containers are deselected, the new ones are created in the same position as the old ones, and are selected. They can then be dragged around and positioned, keeping the same formation and properties.
The same with SEXPs. If I have the sexp and directive 'Destroy Cancer Wing' I should be able to copy and paste it into 'Destroy Cancer Wing 2' and rename it to 'Destroy Virgo Wing.' Isn't this a simple matter of having FRED copy-paste the raw text data in the FS2 file, and renaming a few things?

Ctrl+mouse drag.

You can't copy the whole event, but you can copy the when sexp and thus everything below it.  Make a new event and copy the when from the old into the new.

I feel so stupid. Now I can finally have those minefields I've been dreaming of for so long... :drevil:

I wouldn't feel stupid.  The Ctrl+drag thing isn't in any of the help files as far as I know, and it would be nice if we could copy the whole event.

Torpedo launchers would be a great help to the Unification War, we need capital ships to have some "main weapons"

We oughta be able to do that easily.  Just take the Fusion Mortar on the Fenris, and scale up the damage.  Voila - torpedoes. :)

Here's an idea for you: Railguns/Gauss Rifles. Make a gray shell POF, add the afterburner trails to it (or something improved if possible) and give it an extremely high velocity.

Railguns are actually a great idea. Maybe for anti-bomber stuff.
