this is a high res (ish) version but i could make a low poly version if someone wants to take the model from lightwave to freespace

Hey that's pretty cool. I like it save the nose. :p

Well if you made it longer (in relation to how big the cockpit is) than I thik it would be FS Qualified :D

BTW, is it symetrical? Hard to tell.

I'd love that to be in Freespace, only problem is that I couldn't convert it.

Out of curiosity, how much time did you spend fighting with the canopy framing?

And if you say "oh, about 2 minutes", I want to know your methods. I usually have to spend twenty or thirty before I'm happy. :D

On behalf of the T-V War Project staff, we want it. :) Can we have it?

Mik:

1. Make a low-poly, angular canopy shape. One polygon per panel.

2a. Empty the polygons, leaving the outer lines intact and selected.

2b. Copy/paste each of these line sets individually in their place, then shrink the new ones down a little, so they're inside the old polygon (steps 2a and b are interchangable, I've found it easier to manipulate copied polygons sometimes)

3. Loft the old polymesh's emptied polygons, and their copied smaller versions. Extrude the results, or use an add thickness function if you've got one (I do, and it saves an extra ten or so minutes of work). Alternately, copy the resulting flat polymesh, shrink it, and loft that to the original, much the same as the first one.

Kinda difficult in the explaining, utterly simple in the doing. I've framed a whole hemisphere of some 30 polys before using this method.

Lemme know if you need pictures to show what I'm talking about.

KMN: I like it. Particularly the nose- most of the rest is pretty standard space-fighter fare, but that gives it a new look.

That's the basic method I use, to better or lesser effect. Not as nice as I would like though.

The nose on that makes me think of scifi book covers from the sixties. It feels more "traditional" scifi to me than a lot of what you usually see these days.

It looks really good... cel shading actually fits perfectly to the design

I agree with that statement. Cell shading looks good here.

As for the fighter, I think its nice. Compact design, just the way non-military vehicles should be like since it is for the Police of some planet.

Thank you very much. :)

We'll be reskinning it though - we won't really have the police a prominent part of our mod... ;)

not a prob - its uv mapping isn't suited to gaming anyway

Kleptomania is A-1 SUPAR. ;)

How long do we need to wait for the model, KillMeNow?  No rush - I'd just like an estimate. :)

How's it coming, KillMeNow?

Out of curiosity, which cel shader are you using? BESM or SuperCelShader or possibly Unreal?

What settings do you use for your edging options?

It dosn't really look FS2 possible. :blah:

First, POLICE ( I hope that's not for the Music Group, a good one though)
Second, the intakes at the front. There is no air to in-take in space.

It looks more like it's from some cartoon. Why? Because you used like 5 colors. I have seen a lot better ships made by you than this one. It's not for a serious game like Freespace 2 though. It doesn't look very air-dynamic. It's very cube like, maybe it would look more like a bomber but it would need serious re-textring and a lot more modeling work. What's with the machine guns? Hello, 24th centurty!

Post by: KillMeNow on December 15, 2002, 10:58:12 am
first up - was designed to look cartoony (cause its for a cartton i'm making)- second - it was designed for in atmosphere not space but i dont see any reason why it cant be used in space too - for all you know thats a ramscoup not an air intake and i'm goig to remove that geomtry so it can be textured anyway they want it

thirdly police as in those people who chase you when you steal something etc etc etc (though these ones are somewhat corrupt anyway)

as for not being arodynamic well thats the beauty of cg i dont have to design things that conform to the las of physics

lastly  what machine guns?

mikael - i am indeed using unreal - itsby far the best celshader out and being free well bargin =)

- goober sorry not had time to start making it freespace happy but give me a week or so i'll get around to it

Hello, we're using machine guns in the Unification War. :)

I don't mind the look of the fighter - I say keep that grill thing on the front.  We can say that this fighter is used both for atmospheric and space flight. :)

Or perhaps the grill on the front could be changed to a real nosecone.  If that's the case, post the model before you finish your work so that we can have a look.  But if you don't want to do this, it's fine by me.

We're going to retexture the fighter once it's converted to Freespace friendly.  It won't have the Police logo - it'll be a pre-GTA fighter.

Thanks for doing the conversion, KillMeNow.  We appreciate it. :)

give it a nosecone and it'll lose its "personality".

well i jsut made it so its about 650 polys not any major changes to it to speak of

hmmmmmm did i mention converting? i long since forgotten how to do taht i dont even have to tools anymore basically what i can do for you is give you this model - you migth want to getit into freespace prettyquick and test cause i also not sure about the freespace weird poly rules so part might need fixing

where i should i email and yyou want it lwo or obj format or 3ds but i nto sure how good the lightwave 3ds exporter is

Indeed.  KillMeNow, empty your PM box and then I'll PM you my email.  I'll get Woomeister or somebody to convert it.
