Title: Uh.......first 'render'......if you can call it that....
Post by: Killfrenzy on December 10, 2002, 06:28:24 am
*Hands up* okay, I used trueSpace 5.1 and PSP7, so of course it's utter ****e compared to the rest of you, but it's the first image of the Swarm War that I've made, and I wanted to show off!

Any tips on how to do decent weapons (beams) then please tell me!

It is a good start, and admitting that it sucks wins bonus points. :D

I'd reccomend learning lightning next. By the way, what kind of ships are those? I can't really tell..

the key to weapons and thrusters in TS is using planes and textures with transparency. And please do learn lighting.

Thanks for the criticism/praise.:)

How do you do the engines/weapons/lighting stuff? I tried to get the lighting *approximately* right.......but I dunno.

Incidentally, for those who asked:

The 'Shivanesque' ships are Shrike class fighters of The Swarm. These fighters are fast, agile and come in large groups. It was these 'swarms' of fighters that gave The Swarm their name. The Shrike itself though is a bit of a cissy! A few shots will take it out.

The other fighters are Gencore VF-21 Phoenix intercept fighters of the Karran Imperium. Second only to the VF-22 Maelstrom (which looks identical apart from added weapons) the Phoenix is the fastest and most agile fighter in the game. It's DEADLY and can take an awful lot of damage.

Now for the warships:

The biggest ship (you can just see her fighterbays) is the Senshi class Heavy Cruiser. This ship was the FIRST EVER capship designed for The Swarm War, and it's from that design that the other Karran warship designs originate. The Senshi is heavily armed, and by the end of The Swarm War, attacking one of them as a bomber is SUICIDE! She's also the smallest type of ship that can carry fighters: 2 squadrons of fighters, 1 of bombers.

The other three are Predator class Destroyers. Small, fast, but nasty! At the start of The Swarm War campaign (Karran POV) you'll be working with 1 Senshi and a few of these Predators.

And no, you don't fly the Phoenix straight away! You have to make do with the VF-21 Harpy!

*End of Swarm War p1mp!!*
