Beam needs to get thicker in the fore-ground and add a bit of debris and chaos to the explosion, other than that, it kicks ass.

Dude, you always forget to turn off the ambient lighting.
And also remove te ambient lighting from the explosion lights.
You use even raytrace or shadow maps?
it's nice but like an0n said debris and chaos to the explosion.
