Well ive finally finished it ! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) Lets the party commence, this was one git to texture , not least for the amount of seperate UV alignments i had to do.
Anyway i thought i'd present to you a render of each lod (barring lod3 which is also done, but lod3 usings green which is translusent in freespace 2 but doesnt give a good render (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
The rendors of lod 1 and 2 lose some of the detail in the textures...i dont know why...thats truespace's fault! So the textures are actually crisper but with a render you get nice material properties whcih wont be in game, like the shine effects.

you use green? That means that all voodoo users (there's many) won't really like having large green maps on the models...

There are 12 turrets around the central docking area (some are visable on lod0) they all have tracking barrels.
I can quite easily release a patch for voodoo users once the main pack is released. But i feel for now the green should be used (only on lod3) as it enhances it no end. I dont understand why green is seen my voodoo users...i mean the planets that come with the game use green as well and we never had any problems with them having green boarders (i used to have a banshee so i do know about that (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) )

yeah, I know, I used to use (d'oh) the green maps. It was great, and you have bno idea the use you can do with that. This voodoo pb is a pity (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif).

BTW, when IS the first release? I'm getting sick of attempting to recruit by rescuing stupid VBB newbies and fitting them out (they seem intent on destroying themselves), can't you free up some modders? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Shouldn't the debris models have the spotlights turned off? I mean, think about it...

I'd imagine the electirc/EMP blast from energy weapons could be sufficient to charge the lights up without station power....if you're looking for excuses that is.

A little OT, but waht the hell.
One of the most disturbing FX sequences I ever worked out was the destruction of a Ramses class light cruiser. It was for a bit of "pimping" (otherwise known as 'advertising') I was going to do for Game Faire 2000 for a game I was going to run.
The sequence started out with a starfield view and a desparate distress call being made by a crippled ship. The scene was then going to pan onto a mangled cruiser, You could even see into the viewport of the thing (this was all done with animetronics and models BTW) and someone was silhouetted by the backlighting. A few seconds of hysterics (damage & casualty reports, ect) and the thing takes two more missile hits in the stern (this was likely going to be edited in via computer (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) ). ALL of the lights on the ship go out at the moment of impact (including the viewport lighting) as the blast progresses up the ship (done by sequencialy fired blasting caps). What I found disturbing in the test footage (never progressed beyond that) was just before the blast hits the bridge area, we set an old flash bulb to fire within the bridge, when it went it perfectly silhouetted the figure within the bridge just a split second before the final cap went off sending a blast of smoke through the viewport (we used coal ash lit with orange colored lights to enhance the blasts).
We never progressed with the project beyond that one test run unfortunately (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif), but the image of that lone figure in the window just added the right amount of humanity and tragity to the shot that it made it simply beautiful. I'll have to see if I can find the tape with that footage on it. We moved a few months ago and a bunch of stuff got lost (I think a box got mismarked for the dump (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/redface.gif) ).
