Title: New Space Sim!
Post by: Radivoj on December 16, 2002, 07:04:59 am
I think there is lots of people who would like to hear this.
I'm developing completly new space combat simulation!
More on it and playable demo:
http://www.ptt.yu/korisnici/r/a/radivojr/

P.S. In the demo, 3 ships are from fs2, they are used now just for comparasion, they are not for actual game.

It's too dark.
Too similar to Freespace (and I don't mean the ships)
Beams are too solid and flat, same with the lasers.
But...
Explosions are cool, and nice debris...That's all that matters :D

Do you have a storyline?

BTW, when I try to play it, I get

"Access violation at address0046021D in module 'GF.exe'. Read of address FFFFFFFF."

Then nothing happens - just a black screen with loading on it. Doesn't hang the system or anything, just doesn't seem to work. I am playing this on the severly low end machine though, as the better one is currently unavailable, well below the system requirement of 700 mhz. That might be the cause.

%Thirdly, what file formats are you using, specifically for the models and their skins - PSP can't open them (skins) ATM.

You probably have too old graphic card, that's why you can't run it.
Textures are .png format (eaven some are named .bmp).
I have some bases for developing storyline, its quite deferent and large...

Not bad at all. :)

Very very fast too: I never dropped below 100fps.

'Scuse me if I am being pedantic, but if it is a new game, why does it have FS ships in it?
Title: New Space Sim!
Post by: Hudzy on December 16, 2002, 01:10:45 pm
FS ships rock! But yeah, good point.
Title: why do we have non FS2 ships in FS2?
Post by: Star Dragon on December 16, 2002, 01:14:11 pm

He said they were for comparison... If he keeps them then he out to say it's a FS2 mod FOR his game. I just wanna know if there are gonna be mech or robots in it??? ;)

I will try the demo out and see for myself but the grapics for explosions and beams (though clear and pretty) seem really flat and lifeless... alsomay be my imagination, but the models (FS2) even seem not as detailed? Let you know my final opinion later

i think that you will be able to find some excellent already done artwork in this community (you may also look for xwa and starlancer communitiy, but this one is probably closer to what you are doing). If it will be possible to convert them (as it should, since you succesfully placed some fs2 ships in your game) and the authors agree you will have a decent basis to start with
personally i'll try to help you part time, but i already have a lot to do for the star wars converion ( http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=70 ),  and  i've already to do some ship for a multiplayer mod for fs2, maybe i could share the ships between the two projects

Nice!

Looks good so far. Very impressive for one guy to do on his own!

I have to agree with Star dragon and Unknown target about the weapons. Try putting in some light effects - illuminating ship hulls with weapons fire and explosions, and giving the shots more of a glow around them. I'm very impressed though, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. Good stuff! :)

PS: I'm saying this from looking at the screenshots, not playing the actual demo - I haven't got time to download it at the moment, but I will when I get a moment. Sorry if I've suggested something you've already done, or if you're working on it at the moment. I'd offer to help, but I can't do any programming or coding or anything, so I can't, but good luck anyway!:D

Looks like it don't load mission.mis or some ship files?!
I really dont know why it don't work to you guys, but i must findout. What windows are you using? Did you extracted arhive corectly with subfolders?
Some textures are named .bmp eaven they are .png

You must extract with subfolders, so that ships go to \models
ship textures to \models\texture\ etc...

Well well well. Looks like it's someone from my country. Dobrodosao na HLP zemljak! :D
:D Zelimo vam prijatan boravak. :thepimp:

I've been playing it, and it OWNS! Nice work. Seems a bit bland because of the lack of sound, though.

I especially like the physics, a bit I-War.

And on a sleightly different topic:
You're trying to do dynamic deformation? Wow...that I would like to see...

It's not open source, but if you have some specific questions about dx programing i'll help you and show you some examples.
