Title: Cell phone makers
Post by: Stunaep on December 17, 2002, 07:59:57 am: to continue an argument I and one of my girl friends (notice the space between the two words) had the other day, only without the girl :D :

Who makes the best cell phones, in your opinion.

My vote would go to Nokia. Mainly because all the other makers have only recently come to market (Motorola, Siemens, etc.), so most extra utilities are made for Nokia.

Never used a Siemens one, nor a Sony one, though. Ericsson phones suck, they can't work right even if you're standing on top of a cell tower.

Erm, yours may be. In what sense, anyway? I don't have any problems with it, it works perfectly, and I have truckloads of computer software to interface with it (from maintaining contacts to setting images and ringtones).

Post by: Gortef on December 17, 2002, 09:14:02 am: Allthough Nokia's so called Fashion Phones (3210... 3310) did reduce my respect for their products (I haven't had personal experiences on those though)... I'd still say that Nokia is the leader in Cell phone industries.

I have still an old 5110, and it works quite well :D

You name it... it can do it.
Internet, Email, text messaging, customizable sounds, rings, backgrounds, modes such as "airplane mode", voice-activated, caller-ID, two-screens, downloadable games (java i think), downloadable ringers, MP3s, you name it... this phone does it all.

pity about the price tag, but anyhow. it's a Sprint phone, it's new too... i've only had it for a few weeks now.

match this phone and i'll buy it

EDIT: I'm thinking about 'upgrading' to this phone that looks just like this one except it's got a video camera on the back (with a flash and everything)... you can record movies, take pics (which you can send to other cells, emails, etc.) but this phone i have has a camera you can buy that is external (not as good, but oh well)... a built-in camera would be pretty neat ;) not only could you use it for bad things (hehehehe ;7) but if you see something cool instead of not having a camera you just bust out your cell and take a pic... i like that

EDIT 2: The screen resolution is probably better than on your computer monitors

Bah. Mine does 85% of what your phone can do and costs around a tenth of what yours costs. I'll keep mine for now. Besides, the TV commercial for the Samsung cell phones here in Brazil is... well... gay.

voice dialing, etc. (i haven't used 2% of its features yet ;) lol)

but remember that they make certain phones for certain parts of the world... this particular one is made for "Sprint" i believe... which is what i use. you have to admit it's cool ;)

yeah, this particular one i think i got for $399.99, didn't include signing up for service.

I had to hit it on the back 'till it'd start againg. Thank God I had the Best Buy performance plan and they replaced them all 3 times.

My vote goes to Motorola, they are one of the companies that have been the longest on the industry plus their phones never failed me, even back home (South America).

Right now i have a Motorola i90c, sorry I don't have a picture...

But hey, they've been around since the phone was invented (by some John Ericsson, IIRC), so I think they'll stick around a while longer. My phone is a T20 (a bit old, yes), and you can call people on it, which is what I use phones for.

interesting, in France there's jammers in the theaters, so you can't send or receive phonecalls.
Oh, and the ebst one is Nokia ( but I have a philips, was the cheapest I could get. As soon as I can use it once in a while, I don't need anything fancy, so even the crappiest one will do. ).

they were in france too, but they make exceptions for some places, like theaters, where calling the police or the firemen or anybody can be done w/o a cellphone ( man, if the theater is on fire, you can suppose the neighrood will not just sit and watch :p ... then again, thinking about some people...).
