Not would you, but will you? Yes, this is a direct challenge to any forumite out there to go the The Two Towers in a Star Wars costume of any sort, as long as it's recognizable - stormtrooper armor, Darth Vader, Wookie, etc. So, do I have any takers?? ;7
-
:wtf:
-
i'm going as gollum
just kidding
it would be somewhat cool anyhow... i may do it for the 2nd or 3rd time i see it, but i'm definately not going opening night, or i'll get beaten up by 3000 or so hardcore fans
EDIT: I'm going to go as darth vader :D
-
Razor, do you not have cinemas over there? Or did you somehow miss the Fellowship, and the aura surrounding Two Towers?
-
Excuse me if I'm being ignorant, but where's the connection twixt Two Towers and SW?

That's it exactly!
-
Erm, nope. These silly costumes cost money, which could be invested better (read: in beer and other alcoholic beverages).
:p
-
Indeed. I agree wholeheartedly

We have cinemas here and I have heard about the Two Towers.
-
Yet... you don't care? Or do you not understand?
You did see Fellowship, right?
How about reading LOTR? Tried that?
-
i'll go as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and make fun of all of them.

Need to find an SW suit, tho...
-
i can't. i don't think they have a big and tall section at the costume store.
-
Ha! I vote to go dressed normally then spend rediclously low amounts of money getting pissed at the student union then gettnig laid.... oh wait the Union's closed for xmas.... :blah:

BTW for those ppl tlaking about wanting an SW suit. Keep tabs on the link in my sig....once my GF's father has a chance to write it up we'll have a full tutorial for a vader outfit ;)
There's posted images of it in the customing forum there,...or if you've seen Star Wars Insider (forget the issue but it's the one with Yoda on the cover) the article about celebration has a pic of her dad in his Vader gear :D

Hey! Who added the last, wimp cop-out option?? :wtf: :doubt:

I'd go in as I am right now and get an elf chick for the evening.

Anyone who performs such a blasphemy deserves to get beat halfway to death by the other people on the line to the movies, then the other half when they're getting out after the end.

I might drink a load of petrol, glue a lighter to my lips and dress up as an AT-AT Walker. Go fire some flaming flem-balls at all the fantasy ****s. Or at the very least, taunt them from afar with my superior fire-power. I mean, bows and arrows, it's so passe.

Except that the bow and arrow-wielding ewoks defeated the imperials!
-
Pfff. The only good thing about the ewoks (aside from their cute, cuddliness) was the fact that they could be set on fire and launched from a catapult.

BTW, I also find it quite funny to envisage Anakin Skywalker appearing at the opening for TTT. ;) "I will be the most powerful of all Jedi!!" *gets squished by a Balrog*

You have thought about this waaaay too much! :shaking:
-
Emperor vs. Sauron. Hmm.
-
Well... that would all depend on whether or not the Emperor has a lightsaber, and if Sauron had his Ring on his person. Either way, I'd have to put my money on Sauron, seeing as he's half-way to being a god on Earth, sort of.
Heh, in the backgound there'd be Praetorian Guard fighting werewolves or Morgoth's old Balrog army :D
-
An army of those things?
-
Stormtroopers versus Uruk-Hai. No contest. :\
-
My bet is that Sauron would make Palpatine cry like a baby. Maybe not so much without the ring, of course.
-
What could a giant electrified eyeball DO to you?
Never mind a little old man with electrical discharges coming out of his fingers. I dunno, it might be a close one.
-
You know, that's not really fair. Sauron should face Vader, Morgoth should face Palpatine.
Now that wouldn't even be funny.
-

That's Sauron's Eye (or whatever it's called in English, I got the books in Portuguese). Sauron's not just a giant eye.
-
But isn't Sauron's body dead?
-
Isn't Palpatine dead too?
We're assuming they're not, here.
-
But I meant when his eye's around.
-
An old geezer against a giant bulbous eye. Not my concept of fun, mind you.
-
Is mine. That'd be AWESOME! And then we GREASE them, and put them in the THUNDERDOME! Yes!:D
-
Hmm. But how would the greasy eye wear the ring?
-

Reason enough to read the Silmarilion, methinks. What was the boss Balrog called... Gothmog, that was it. Hard as nails, him :)
Morgoth 0wned Sauron... back then Sauron was just Morgoth's b1tch. Even at the height of Sauron's power, he'd be no match for Morgoth, Ring or no Ring. Sauron maybe a fallen angel, but Morgoth was a god. Ph33r him :D
-
Firstly, I'd like say that you're all very sad. With the possible exception of Stryke for managing to weasle Thunderdome into a LOTR/SW discussion. *applauds*
ANyway, Palpatine ain't dead. His essence or some **** flew off and started a new Sith thingy then he got caught in a magic jar by some Jedi. I forget the specifics as this is just regurgitated information picked from previous threads I've glossed over.
And the big-ass eye is pretty much just a means of co-ordinating the dark-forces. Orcs are the real power behind the evilness.
-
No, Sauron is the power behind the orcs. Read more Tolkien.

Still, that elvish king cut his hand off (or was it his feet, or just a wound? - bah, I don't remember). Not to mention Beren...
*goes to read The Silmarillion again*
*is unable to, because the book's 100 miles away, with Styxx*
-
Uh-huh.
You know, I've always felt that if you were going to spend all your time in an imaginary univers, it should at least be your own imaginary universe.:p
-
Fingolfin chopped of Morgoth's foot, and Beren half-inched a Silmarilion (with Luthien's help). But Sauron was floored by a human of much lesser whatsit than Beren, so Morgoth is still the daddy - it took all the gods and all the elves and men to take him out (by all jumping on him at once at making the world's biggets bundle  )
*is sensible and never lends books to Styxx*
[EDIT] Who says Middle-earth is imaginary? Tolkien always said he was merely translating it from the old Saxon, which in turn was translated from the Elvish. Seems that a chap called Elfwine was sailing on the Atlantic and accidentaly found the Straigh Path in to the vanished West, and met the Elves of Tol Eressëa - they told him the lays of Middle-earth and Valinor, and when he returned he wrote then down.
Possibly, though, Tolkien made that up.

Did Lucas say that?
-
I am aware that the Orcs are tortured Elves, but still, they're the most ass-kickin-est made-up creature in the whole damn Tolien universe. I mean, c'mon, they're big, they're black, they're grown in the ground, they can tear Hobbits heads off and there's millions of the suckers.

It also take approximately 400 of them to take down one human hero. I dunno, man...

Yeah, that's only coz the hero always has some magic sword or a friggin bunch of elves backing him up.
But still, they can be lost in the hundreds and still be the biggest military force in the land. How cool is that?
-
The big black dudes are Uruk-hai. They're different from Orcs, which are the green dudes. The Uruks were bred by Saruman from Orcs and men, and have the nastiest traits of both :shaking:
Without the will of their masters behind them, orc tribes would just disperse and be of limited danger away fomr the mountains. Only a will like Sauron or Saruman's can forge orcs in to an army
*laughs at an0n trying to argue with DG about Tolkien*
-
Orcs is Orcs. If a black man has a kid with a white woman, the kid is still black. Period.
Orcs are the bestest, worstest, bad-assest mofo's in the whole damn magic-loving, tree-huggin, Liv Tyler starin, Hobbit crunching, village burnin universe.

All I remember is that he was Turin's father, and there's something in there about that city hidden in the mountains (the one where Glorfindel died slaying a Balrog, I believe) and something else about Ulmo.

There's always the possibility of you admins actually disabling the vote bumping thing, of course (at least I presume there is). At the risk of DGs wrath, Tolkien rather disappointed me. One of my friends is a fairly big LOTR fan, not obsessed, but big enough that he would regularly suggest I start reading them. So one day I sat down and read the Hobbit. It bored the **** out of me. Tolkien is so boring and prissy and overdescriptive. He wastes too much time on unimportant stuff, sacraficing the story for needless overdetailing.
That said, I have the most enormous respect for the amazing complexity of the Elfin language, the concept of something like the silmarillion and the basic story of LOTR. Tolkiens writing style just spoiled it IMO.
-
Err... the hobbit isn't much like the lord of the ring books.

Hmm, not as bad as I thought - Minas Ithil must be somewhere in New Zealand, so I guess a trip to Australia isn't that bad. :p

the hobbit has been written for his young nefew -> it was a book for young kids. but the LotR is also overdescriptive ( which for me is good, I like to be able to imagine the Rohan the right way, etc ), so if you don't like that...

You won't like Robert Jordan and the Wheel of Time Series, then. The series probably stands at about 6,000 pages so far, with more to come.

Yeah, me too...
I'd like tTT more but those battle scenes were a little dissaponitment. They used too much slow motion and it just wasn't what I hoped. Though the short battle scene from FotR was fantastic. :)
-
dispoainted by the battle scenes in tTT? Whoa, I don't see how they could be better... ( yeah, remove the Legolas surfing trip, but that aside... ).

I actually might go see tTT again on tuesday or something. maybe use that free ticket I got a while ago... It wasn't too bad, only it's the big between in the trilogy.

All the action was kinda slow. I didn't get the feeling of a big battle except the beginning, the explosion, Legolas' ride and the moment Aragorn broke out of the castle. I think the battle scenes were ok but camera work was baaad. They should learn something from Ep2 about moving cameras...and of course not to turn on slow motion during the coolest parts...

d00d, Ep2 was a WWII battle, tTT was a battle of Agincourt battle. You cannot use WWII camera movements (such as the documental zooms in Ep2) in a fantasy setting.

Errr, your right...
But then at least they should've used FotR camera movements. Like this camera flying and spinning over the battlefield.
