Post by: aldo_14 on December 20, 2002, 04:39:26 pm: Well ,I just can't be arsed even turning on the Pc to do modding nowadays, so I'm going to be incommunicado for at least the next month-and-a-half. I'll try and get some of the stuff I promised working over then, but otherwise I'm out of here.

my money says by the end of the month we'll lose at least 3 more "classics"... been thinking of it myself lately... but then again, I have a lot of useless time. :D

Looks like HLP is our last hope.

Well I sure ain't leavin' in a hurry! I still gotta finish the TVWP, and we've been working on the demo for months.:)

Gonna miss 'ya aldo.:(

1) OTT's going down.. Venom's perrogative I spose'.. whatever. (Hey Ven, send me that stuff we talked about [ [email protected]] minus the nospam of course)

2) KC's been dead for ages, but it's finally sinking

3) I doubt Reci will make a comeback now... unless aldo misses modeling that much.

So what Camp(s) do you say's goin' down next?

Keep in mind, some keep yelling "I'm not dead yet! Come Back here!" but don't show too much. I'm a little hesitant now to start something, I was hoping ot get a set up by Christmas to kinda show y'all.. but we'll see how that works.

So yeah, which do you think is gonna bite it next?

My money's on MT, DA, or AP. Probably MT most likely. Most ambitious and they've already cried out.

guess that just leaves room for us newbies to grow and make a name for ourselves.... (like me.... i prolly haven't done anything constructive for the entire time i've been here)

Eventually, we probably will end up focussing on some other game aside from Freespace, but even if not, there is no reason for the 2D and 3D art to die. And besides, we have more than just your average community - every last one of you knows - HLP is different. :yes:

I'd learn modeling, but I don't have the money to buy any of that expensive stuff. I'd LOVE to learn to render, but I'm only 13, so how am I going to buy Lightwave? (Maybe I'll ask for it for my birthday, *June 1st, why June!!).

I already got one of my friends interested in fs1, and I'll hook him on fs2 as soon as he gets a 3D card.

Some of you vets (not sure if vets are long time members, or members who've done some great work) oughta take some of these newbies under your wing and teach them how to MOD. One on one. When I was a newbie, those big long tutorials always scared me. If I couldn't figure out one thing, then I'd be stuck.

have faith hades...I think I was 13 when I first found HLP...forgot...too long ago. I never used a single tutorial when learning how to model. It is doable, and I learned TrueSpace. Much better than blender IMHO, and it doesn't jack your model up when you try to .pof it. And its $99 for TS5 IIRC, so it isn't that expensive.

Trial and Error works for me. Thats how I learned modding. Well and the small influence of Sushi. ;)
BTW if I could earn 370 bucks in the summer and get a XBOX you could do the same for Lightwave. Of course it helps to be remodeling your own house :cool:

no one will probably know what to do, but anyway... this "Smiley link" (a smiley which is actually a URL to something) is patented, copyrighted, trademarked, etc. to STEALTH.

On the topic.... kinda odd to see yet another veteran leave, but we salute ya for the work you've done and g'l'k whatever you're doin'.

But recently it's been a torrent of bad events.... the VBB closes, Warpstorm dies, then HLP loses many veterans and suchlike. Even Nodewar is starting to lose some members (though we're getting new members as well :)). *hopes the walls of this last bastion will always stay up, sturdy and bear the proud letters H, L and P*

To tell you teh Truth Deepblue, learning to model is one of the last things on my list. I want to learn how to do interface, and otehr stuff. I've already recruited one person (One of my friends) and another is on his way.:)

Any questions are welcome in the appropriate forums - that's what they are there for, after all. And if someone needs more personal tutoring, they can ask. What, did you think it mere coincidence the sembalance between HLP and HELP? :D

I don't think our community is going to die anytime soon. We have the SCP, and that should prolong the life. Heck, I've played some of those "addictive" games. They aren't half as great as fs2.

LightWave fluctuates. Recently it was around the $1500 mark, but it goes up significantly around the times for new releases and peak seasons.
