Just found this little news item at Homeworld's Official Site (//"http://sierrastudios.com/games/homeworld/hw/"):
Alternate universes intersect at the new Homeworld Mod section
—11/15/00
Though Homeworld has no mod support, many very talented mod experts have been inspired to change its game play and to refit it with other popular science fiction universes, including Freespace, Wing Commander, Star Trek and Babylon 5. We've opened a new section (//"http://sierrastudios.com/games/homeworld/hw/mods/") of the site to promote the very best Homeworld mods out there. Cross over into an all new universe of three-dimensional real-time space-fleet strategy.
And since I just got both Homeworld AND Cataclysm yesterday... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

If you like RTS - it's incredibly good (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
But incredible slow if you send like twenty frigates, five destroyers, two heavy cruisers, a carrier, plus fighter support, and some salvage corvettes into a battle (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

I still don't know what you are talking about. Guess I'll buy it first then see. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Ahh, but on my 800Mhz Pentium !!! it's smooth sailing, even when I've overworked my Salvage Corvettes and made off with virtually every ship Frigate size and above my opponents have built for the past 3 hours and decide to send in a massive fleet to smacketh thine overrated Mothership. I'm talking approximately 7 Heavy Cruisers, 13 destroyers (5 of them Missile Destroyers), 40-odd Frigates (Assault and Ion), and 20-something resource collectors I jump in on the opposite side of the Mothership and order a kamikaze attack...mighty pretty fireball (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Well, I have just a Celeron 500, and I salvaged like 1/4th of this ion frigate sphere around the hyperspace inhibitor. And this against the kamikaze asteroid and it's escort fleet in the next mission. It was almost not playable...
