Title: FS1 quits on me
Post by: zino on December 25, 2002, 06:16:13 pm
My FS1+Silent Threat installation is behaving strangely. It starts up fine, plays fine, but a few minutes into any mission it just quits back to the MS Windows desktop without any error dialog or other warning of any kind.

Does anyone know where I should start digging for clues as to what could be wrong?

P3@550MHz
128MiB RAM
NVidia TNT2  (Latest drivers)
Windows XP
FS1 patched from 1.04 to 1.06.

"Helm, take us in...Gunnery control, target zino...Fire the welcome beam!

Exits are to the left, right and in the back. In case of emergency shotguns, flamerthrowers, and type IV Phaser rifles are located under the seats. If you see a Shivan wandering around, give him your lunch. Oh...and watch out for the Hammer of Ownage and be mindful of Tiara's axe.........

I recall having a similiar problem. First of all, you got any MODs installed?  have you restarted your comp? Sounds almost like the RAM is full...

Back up your C:/games/freespace/data/players/ folder and reinstall, see if that helps.

It does, as a matter of fact.  Where did you get it from?

Not if you don't count Silent Threat, but I'll try deinstalling that one too.

Oh yes. Repeatedly. There is ~50MiB (not counting swap) available when starting the game, which ain't that much, but I think it should de for something as old as FS1.

I guess I'll do that. Thanks! I'll report back tomorrow how it went.

Look under Knight Templars name and click on the small pic(A.K.A. an "Avatar") of the GTAs logo, it should take you to the FS1-FS2 Port website.

It's FS1 ported to FS2, better graphics, and now it has the sheilded lucifer model!!!:D

It's good, trust me.

Oh, and Welcome to the HLPBBs

Of course I do. I have two* original copies of FS2. :)

That sounds like an excellent solution!  Thanks!

(I got tied up with other stuff, so I never got the time for the reinstall test)

* Don't ask. I'm to embarresed to tell why.
